When you are guarding the cave from a big attack in Forest colony... DO NOT stand in front of it to fire in at them.
That-
1: Equalizes the firepower exchange. (You can only shoot at them as much as they can shoot at you.) You throw your firepower advantage away.
2: They can arty strike you, and you cannot arty strike them.
Duh.
Stand off to the side and wait for them to come into the open trap.
Trap them there, arty strike them, finish them off, then get the rest of their team.
Thank you.

What you should do is walk inside the cave and fight them in a confined area you cant move around in. And if your teammates are any good theyll hit the enemy as much as they hit you.

Ain't that the fricking truth!... LOL!
Last night I dropped on Alpine and was playing peek-a-boo on the high ridge and a Firestarter came up and began harassing me... Suddenly every mouth-breather on my team below start taking pot-shot at the damn thing, hitting ME more that the fricking FS!
Sometimes your better off on your own.

How dare you sir, how dare you suggest that lonewolves need to know strategy, tactics, teamplay, and communication to win.

I dare! because PGI forces me to play with the lowly rabble in order to achieve rewards in contests...
it is enough to kill a man, honestly!

It doesn't matter if it's Cave in Forest Colony, or the big volcano on Terra Therma or any other bottleneck.
As a PUGer, I reserve the right to utilize what is known as the Pugger Blitz.
Step 1: Form a single file in front of a bottle neck.
Step 2: Write "PUSH NOW" with Caps Lock in team chat.
Step 3: When you start coming under fire by multiple opponents, if you should somehow survive more than a few seconds, back up into the mech behind you, or jump off the bridge, hide inside the dropship, or whatever the equivalent is on your map.
Step 4: After you've died, write in team chat (remember Caps Lock) "Thanks a lot for your help, guys! What a bunch of [insert misogynist / homophobic insult] losers."
Step 5: ???
Step 6: Profit.
