While I detest nerfs in the greatest way possible, I have to admit that LRMs are in need of a nerf for balancing purposes. As all other weapons systems in the game continually receive nerfs, LRMs are the only ones to receive a substantial buff recently. Now I am regularly seeing LRM boats rule the field with their rapid fire, substantial screen shake, and damage quantities. To see if it was just me or not, I ran an LRM boat as well. I was dismayed to discover how easy it is to acquire damage and kills with LRMs at virtually no risk.

When LRM Mechs are able to beat similarly sized direct-fire builds in a straight up gunfight, then there is a problem. When half the Pugs are running LRMs, to the point where other Mechs cannot compete, then there is a problem. Please nerf the LRMs to bring them in line with the other weapon systems in the game so that there is actually a balance.

LRMs do not need nerfs. They need buffs. The reason you see people always ever using massive swarms, rapidfire, or none at all is due to the fact that LRMs need buffs in one way or another. Can you name a place when you saw a 'Mech that carried a single or double LRM launcher into battle attached to a different build? No? Why not? Because the only way LRMs are effective right now are when they over-saturate an area. They're meant to be powerful, but also not meant (in most cases) to be the primary weaponry of a 'Mech (the surplus of LRMboats without back-up weapons).

They are easily one the most counterable weapons in the game. AMS (which practically any IS 'Mech can mount, along with plenty of Clan 'Mechs), ECM (only one person needs to carry), required LoS (if you are getting locked-on, SOMEONE can see you), cover (LRMs can't hit you if they hit a rock first), minimum range (not as severe for Clans, but it's still much better to shoot outside that range), and they require a lock to be effective (which can be denied in several fashions stated previously).

Why do people run LRMs in pugs? Because that's what works when people don't run for and use cover. Because you don't have Lights that run in to hunt down, find, and destroy those LRMboats. 9 times out of 10, if you get close to an LRMboat, it will die, because it lacks any sort of substantial firepower beyond its LRMs.

This is why LRMs need a buff; They only work well in huge amounts. People cry for nerfs because when the LRMs hit, they hit HARD. When they miss, nobody cares. Make LRMs effective enough so that people don't have to use massive numbers, instead of saying they need to be weaker, which then results in both less usage, and more LRMs/'Mech.

A call for a nerf is not a feature suggestion.

There are plenty of anti-LRM threads in the general discussion forums where you can discuss your disdain of this weapons system.
