I don't know if the 50 win achievement was the tipping point, but the games gives me a feeling or work and not play.

Maybe if it was 50 wins in a group or solo then the social aspect could kick in. For now its just mindless grinding which is just pushing me away.

The 50 wins really shifts the mental reward mechanism away from skilled combat (a job well done to be celebrated with others) to just mindless numbers.

A word to all the Devs, there is really a dangerous tipping point that where the game just isn't enjoyable anymore. This must be counter balanced by good community and community play.

Niko, you should absolutely convey this to the higher ups. This is a big underlying issue that will lose people forever. The game should never feel meh.

PS: When a large challenge with a large reward is not achieved. IT creates a counter active feeling of loss. (stock traders profit loss folly, even when there is a gain, it feels like a loss) The priorities shift from "I wanted to do that" to " I should have done that". In a larger scale this is poison to the game because it shift the balance from "play" to "work". It shift the balance from "enjoyment with no downside" to "responsibility with consquences"

Advice: avoid "large achievements". Have smaller, more frequent small scale challenges. Make challenge as community objective and not a solo objective.

A lot of people in this community are toxic.

Well, that may not be fair, it is the toxic ones that make me feel disheartened to play; they may not be the majority, but they are the most vocal.

I'm feeling something similar. I haven't even played all weekend (or week) and I'm just not getting the feels to play MWO right now.

Really... an Optional Challenge is the straw that broke the camels back??? Gotta say, cry harder. I get the sense you got capped on a few times and your 24/7 skirmish in all modes is non-existent this weekend...

I would really appreciate it those who posted could look past their own egos when then post and consider the larger picture. This is not a complaint but a concern.

If more challenge like this where brought up it would actually end up being detrimental to the player base as it would only highlight what is causing player loss.

A challenge that is not enjoyable and based on the feelings of "should" not "want" is absolutely a failure in game design.

Creovex pretty much summed up exactly why i hate these forums.

Big picture, people. Big picture. You know, the one where we might not have a mechwarrior game anymore if this stuff keeps up?

What exactly is not enjoyable about winning games? Is your goal to lose them?

Challenge: Play the game, try to win!

Um, no? We've proven that there are many people still interested in the Mechwarrior franchise and are plenty willing to pay. If a company with an actual competent dev team, picked up the license, many of us would be really happy. So when MWO finally falls, there will be someone to salvage the license. Hopefully they'll actually make good use of it so we can enjoy an actual game as opposed to a glorified demo.

I understand that it is the internet, but how do you expect new players and those trying to do better, if there is always someone using vulgarity at them, claiming the team sucks, putting everyone down, etc., or when they read responses to other peoples concerns, they are met with... what's the point.

Carry on.

Nobody forces you to play.
I completed the challenge, 50 wins, without feeling a mechanical player, and you know what? When I finished the challenge I continued to play.
Because I enjoy mwo and the challenges.
Not for the mechbay, not for the week, not for the c-bills, but for FUN.

If people could keep on topic here mainly:

1) Its a good challenge but: It highlighted some negative issues with mwo.
2) How can these issue be avoided?
3) Are there better ways to give a reward feeling without the "negatives" of missing out on the reward?
4) Is there a way to avoid the feeling of "work" and preserve the feeling of "play"
5) How to make these challenges universally enjoyable to all players no matter what state of the game cycle they are in.

I understand that:
new players: Challenge = ~ I have to get this (good if achieved)
(bad if loss) ~Missed out, meh wast that fun anyway. Or "that was hell, you call this a game?" Time for a new game.

mid players: ~ I have to get this (good if achieved)
(bad if loss) ~ hmm, I didnt make it (player may stay but they will drag around "play fatigue")

old players: This is boring and pointless. I have all the things I'll ever need, but if I dont do this I will miss out . beh whats the point at all its all the same! (takes a week off may come back or leave) (very bad)

In other words:
The negative potential of this challenge on the player base far outweighs the positive gains it may achieve.

I agree having one of this scale able to be completed in groups would be a good move. 5 wins solo? Sure. 10? No problem. When you start getting to 20+ where you have to deny others who want to drop with you because of the sweet reward for dropping solo, it seems a little excessive.
I love playing this with friends - especially friends I've made in-game - and when I have to say 'Nah, not right now. I'm trying to finish this challenge', it does detract from the social feel of the game.

i liked the way the previous challenge was, individual effort to achieve individual rewards, what your team was doing had no impact on the individual rewards, this is a TEAM challenge that you can only get in the SOLO queue, thats my beef with it.

one good match on your part, but poor performance from the rest, and its still a big fat goose egg on the scoreboard for YOUR challenge. Of course the opposite could be true as well, drop, run into the middle, explode, and see if your team wins without you. its placing your success or failure of the challenge more or less into the matchmaker's hands.

I think until we get community warfare fully operation with units having objectives, these challenges have to be individual effort only, Kills/assists, damage, XP, whatever marker you want to attribute, NOT stricty W/L
EDIT: actually, 15points/win, 5/kill, 1/assist would feel good for a challenge like the last one, obviously raising the point threshold to compensate.

as for your point of this being a dark road, i see your point, but you're coming across as a bit of chicken little syndrome.

Where have you proved this??? Russ said it himself, the property went UNTOUCHED for 8 years (need to double check number) by Microsoft to say the least (This is the same company that wasted billions on an OS called Vista... yeah, they had cash to burn) and nobody else was jumping into the burning building to rescue the Mechwarrior Franchise.

As a hardcore MW fan, from the original PC games, to novels, the tabletop and the Dark Age game.... this franchise is on life support outside of a comic book store... Don't believe me... go to your play store and tell me with all those thousands of mobile developers out there, how many made a MW wannabe... less then 10 from my count...... so how sure are you this game would get a million people tomorrow if a different company did it?

As for trolling, sorry, been here a long time, been white and black knighted and have to say in this instance....

"Whining about free stuff is exactly what is wrong with the world today, so much entitlement and only a bunch of whining when you have to work for something. Respect and appreciation have LEFT the building!"

It's one thing if its server lag (support issue) but the fact that you get out played and come here to whine is sad.... PGI DOES NOT owe you the rewards, they are giving you a chance to EARN SAID REWARDS. So you have a bad streak? Suck it up and move on. Get back in the cockpit and try again. If you don't like it, buy some MC, get your mech bay, get your 7 days premium time and your 6.5 million cbills and skip this weekend. Otherwise, stop being spoiled and grow up.

After this challenge I'm fairly burned out, and might even go so far as to require PGI to omit clan mechs from the next challenge if they want me to participate. They were the one consistent deciding factor that tipped games from close to real stomps.

Get in a light and have fun. I did 30 wins alone in lights and boosted levels on my Firestarters, Kitfoxes and Adders while keeping their K/Ds over 1.
