They have to spend the time required to play the 25 matches. Time that could be spent playing and earning on their main(s). Seems a complete waste of time to me. The larger units have an advantage in the money department by dent of the shear number of pilots able to contribute anyway.

I believe it's also been stated that coffer donations are a one-way street. They go into the unit and can buy unit-y kinds of things, but they won't be able to say, pool their resources and buy everyone a DireWolf. Once CW comes out, units with large amounts of cash may have some sort of advantage over other units, but we'll just have to wait and see about that.
