This came to my head from a topic in GD. It is a common complaint that people don't follow orders, and while yes I'm sure there are some who just choose to ignore them, the bigger problem might be that people don't manage to read them.
So, I have a few, from my view rather simple suggestions to improve this:
1) The team and lance chat text should remain visible longer.
I think its 5-10 seconds now? It should be 30 to 45 seconds to improve the chances of reading it in time. Oftentimes I notice I've missed team messages while I've been busy dealing with another mech. Usually though, skirmishes with single mechs rarely last longer than that 10-15 seconds until other side either retreats or is destroyed.
2) Kill, disconnect, etc messages should be moved to another window.
Logical place for a scroller for these messages would be maybe under the match timer / scoreboard? This is another thing that disrupts text communication as it pushes messages upwards.
3) Consider enlarging the message window somewhat. In lieu of the above suggestion, at least showing a bit more text would alleviate the above problem where a kill and a "player x has left the game" message uses a lot of valuable space for information.
Have any other things you think would be helpful? Feel free to comment.
