What I have:

AMD Phenom X4 9550 running @ 2.20 ghz
ATI HD5670 (1gb) Considering buying another to crossfire.
6 gigs RAM

Granted, no matter how I'm looking at it, I'll be running the game on fairly low settings. But the question I have is: In the terms of game requirements is 4x 2.20 ghz processors >= 2x 2.66 ghz processors?

If not, then I'll just have to wait until I can get a new system.

According to the dev post, quad core CPUs have a substantial benefit over the dual cores in this game, even if the the quad core is pretty old. They used the old Intel Core 2 Quad vs Core 2 Duo as an example. I don't know how well your AMD Phenom X4 9550 compares with the Core 2 Quad, and I'm too lazy to check benchmarks, but I suspect that the benefit of having two more cores will outweigh the difference in clock speeds and whatever other enhancements there may be. Unless you're talking about the latest gen Intel dual cores, in which case it's a bit less clear.

You may be correct about your quad cores being faster on all accounts than two cores with more GHz, but at that point it will really come down to the chip spec (cache, bus size, etc). Check out this gaming CPU hirearchy to see where your processor stands. The President of PH did in fact say that quad core is best.

I'm in the same boat as you, where I have an existing Radeon GPU and I was thinking about crossfire, and I am under the impression that Crossfire is feasible only if:

• You want dual displays to run well
  
• Your power supply has enough available power to comfortably support a second video card (see the power supply guide for links to wattage usage & recommendation calculators)
  
• AND you don't mind paying extra for the crossfire bridge connector that you might need (assuming your current or new card doesn't come with one)

Like me, you may get more out of this crossfire

Thanks all for the info. I think I will most likely buy a founders pack. I definitely looks like I can at least run it on a reasonably low setting, so I'm not gonna worry about upgrading this system. Instead, I'm gonna save up for a whole new system to buy at a later time.

Your CPU is actually good enough that you could upgrade to a 7770 or 7850 depending on your budget and see a major performance increase.

You'll be able to run the game with low settings at least.

That CPU is slower than a Core 2 Quad but the engine scales well with core count if i recall correctly.
You could always overclock to 2.6-2.8Ghz which would leave your CPU at around a Phenom X4 9950 performance level (haven't seen many Phenom X4 9550 running much higher without losing stability).

If you want to upgrade something you could always go for a X4 960T (or X4 955BE) if your motherboard supports it and a HD7770.
