This game really needs more substance.

After a couple of years one would think the game would have moved further ahead with more than just added mech's and items. Three game mode modes that usually play out exactly the same. The mech's look fantastic, even though some are not perfect. Effects, sounds, and weapon balance is good. Existing maps are great looking, although I could do without playing some of them. Only because I refuse to use LRM's and there is nowhere to hide.

I sit back contemplating buying MC, but fear the death of this game due to lack of substance. There needs to be larger maps run from more powerful servers. There needs to be repsawns and not just one and done. The current 15 minute rounds are great for jumping in for a few rounds when I don't have time, but I would like to be able to go into a round that could take an hour. Not that I'm asking for a "battlefield" mode of conquest exactly, but one similar (War Thunder) would be nice to see. Ticket based and objectives. Pick from a group of owned mech's to take in and when you die respawn in another. This game would rake in the players and money with a system like that.

Just a thought from a person that has a friends list that hardly ever has friends online, because they got bored and are waiting for things to be added. Come on PGI, lets have some more, I'll spend a lot of money on this game if it moves ahead with more than just new Mech's.

The game is really shallow right now. Go in, kill or die, rinse, repeat.

I do agree. Objective heavy game modes would be cool.
A lot of substance could be added with CW, especially if they involve the solo players as well. Like giving map benefits to factions based on solo q results and stuff like that.

There was also all that talk about loyalty points which still remain a mystery.

In the end what keeps me coming back is the depth of gameplay. There is a lot of variety and depth to the gameplay itself. No match is the same. This is especially true recently when the meta keeps shifting and people keep bringing out new loadouts.

my only response to this:

After doing a slight bit of research, namely googling War Thunder development, i found out that war thunder started development in 2009, and the company used large amounts of coding and programming form previous games. This being said, it has had roughly 3 years of additional development MWO has not had, plus the game was not built from scratch as MWO is.

So while these "OTHER" games are more polished and have more content, they benefit from a continuation from previous games that were developed. Give MWO another 3 -4 years, and i promise you it will be at roughly the same spot, multiple game modes, a dynamic universe, all your hopes and dreams.

Please stop whining about content, it will come just be patient. Seriously this community's GIVE IT TO ME NOW!!!!!1!!!!1!!!11! mentality is mind boggling.

Rome, New Avalon, Tharkad, and Strana Mechty werent built in a day, or month, or year...

Yep totally agree, this is a next gen game. But I also agree they got to put the warrior in mechwarrior still, because right now all we have is the mech part.

Have you guys done ANY research or just come here to whine?

CW is coming, when PGI gets around to it, but it's coming. If you don't know what CW is, then that proves my point. If you do and your still making generic whines, then I am going to shut up since I already have a headache and a ban-hammer wouldn't help.

Sure, but you can't expect a high retention of players without depth. Its been this way for a few years now.

Begs the question if they can handle more players with the server loads they have been having, and also if this is why development has been somewhat on the slow side some might say. The lag and other complaints some have is due to high pop i am almost 100% sure, since on off peak hours ping is a full 20 less than peak hours not to mention the rare lag spikes never happen in off peak hours.

Let's eliminate CW as part of the discussion, just for the first few paragraphs anyhow.

Have they done anything significant to improve the variety of gameplay in the past 2 years that is significant? No, no they haven't. The biggest "change" in gameplay has been that they added turrets to the maps and said "Hey, Look! Different Gameplay!" That's it.

Some can, and will argue, that they have been busy working on CW, but frankly I think that's a pile of horse manure. What they have been working on primarily over the past two years is Hero/Champion mechs and Clan mechs, all of which are "For Sale". Monetization has been virtually the the only work they've done in the past 2 years.

Surely they could have pumped out a couple of extra maps in that time, say 3 or 4 more than exist currently in that amount of time, simply by tapering back a bit on producing mechs for sale.

Maybe they could have produced another game mode, nothing elaborate, in that amount of time. Say, convoy escort, or VIP escort, maybe capture the flag, or something? Nope, too busy improving the game by selling nothing but mechs.

I understand that they need cash flow to maintain the game, I'm not saying don't sell ANY mechs, but for gawds sake don't you think that they could have done just a bit more actual content over the past 2 years?

Heck, I'd be happy if over that time period they were giving us sneak peaks at the progress they made on CW over that time. I forgot, we just recently got the "bleeding edge" of MP gaming ability to associate INTO UNITS, and a map to look at. I mean WOW, I was totally gob-smacked by that, never saw that coming, and that sure put the other MMO's into their place didn't it?

So, lacking frequent updates to appease the masses, which I guess you could assume is due to the top secret nature of the materials they are working on (sounds better than "we don't have much"), I'm left to assume that the lack of other materials is financial, as in they need to make mechs for sale to fund the game. But really, do they have to do it to this level, because then to me it sounds like "hand-to-mouth" development, which circles back to the current lack of content.

Yes....I know, the first "Module" of CW is now here, but I'm damned impatient after waiting all this time only to have "that" as the big reveal first module. Unless they start really producing content, I'm afraid it can't ameliorate 2 years of frustration quickly.

Funny anecdote time:

I was watching a TotalBiscuit video yesterday, can't remember what game it was, but it was built on CryEngine 3, and he says something along the lines of "it's a beautiful game, all the CryEngine games are... well not MechWarrior Online, don't know what they did there..."

And the worst part is it's true. The game has become uglier and uglier as the devs battle with their badly performing code :(

He might have been talking about the water colour on Island City. Yes i know they renamed the map and beat it with an ugly stick, but i am ignoring it. I wont even start on the trees, why the trees!

Or he might have been have been talking about when loading back into the mechbay the mechs are coloured all ugly for a second. Which drives me up the wall to no end. Add a load screen to avoid this or something sheesh! Was going to make an entire topic about this in support.

Didn't say they were doing a great job of retention. I was addressing those players, not PGI.

And now I will make a psychic prediction. You don't work in the IT field.

Probably not even n the corporate world.

If you did, you would know that the folks who work on creating new mechs/maps are not the guys who work on coding new game modes.

So working on CW wouldn't affect maps etc unless they don't have a unlimited budget. Which they don't. BTW, how much do the new maps cost when they come out? Aren't they a lot cheaper than mechs?

BTW, how do you expect them to pay the bills if they don't sell mechs?

Who said it was a plan to shame other MMOs? Of which this isn't one, btw.

Also, if you had experience that was relevant, or had kept up on MWO over the years, you would know that since things change over time, it's best to keep quiet about stuff until it's in the game for sure. Remember Merc units only being able to assign limited numbers of pilots to a given world's defense? Or having to spend over 200 million C-bills to create a unit (ie buy the dropship?)

So you think they are running on a tight budget and want them to stop doing stuff that makes money?

I log in for perhaps 3-5 hours a week to blow off steam (and bits of other people's 'mechs). Would I like more content and/or 'depth' ? Sure. But the chances are pretty good that I'll continue playing for the foreseeable future even with the game in its current, admittedly far from perfect state.

I'd take the time to reply to you point by point too, but it's evident you didn't read my post slowly enough for you to understand.

The most I will say is I didn't say STOP producing mechs for sale, I said cut back a bit and dedicate the resources into other areas that need attention.

Just to be clear, cus I see you are yet again having trouble with a concept, it's possible to be frustrated by something and still enjoy it. It's called GOLF among other things.

Children, children...games like this take time. Games like this need to monetize to stay alive and with the contract for licensing up in the air for a period, it's was not financially feesible to continue work on CW until the license extension was secured. So if they couldn't work on CW, then what else would best utilize their resources while we all wait? Of course it would be monetizing products to help secure finances during the wait period...the Clan and Phoneix mechs are a significant means of insuring the game would still be here and would have enough residual and banked revenue to fund the studio through its current development of maps and CW which would net very little direct revenue for the easy 6 months to a year they'd need to really hammer this new content out.

Even new maps would be put on the back burner since their primary utilization would be to fleshing out CW...which was on hold during contract negotiations for the license extension. Yes we wanted more maps...but we didn't need them. Revenue was the only thing at the time that had to be secured and prioritized, which was fine because the art team could work on monetizing products without preventing other teams from working on other aspects of the game that could be worked on during the wait period such as bugs and back end stuff, etc, etc...sadly, the recent desync/disconnect monster is appearing to be a much harder beast to slay.

I get some people can't see past the end of their nose and only care about now, but this game can't make it if only support it for what it is now...it has to be about supporting it for what it's working toward
