Anyone have a handle on this thing?

One take I've seen on it is how it'd "fit" in a less-then 990X chipset, only the base clock is way low, where it stays most of the time. :(

The other seems to say it runs cooler, at only slightly lower clocks, but then this story whiffs at reporting the power draw. And it doesn't really say if it's running cool enough to go to a cheaper air solution, instead of a pre-fab closed-loop.

Any insight from the FX Experts 'round here?

The general consensus seems to be that it's just a chip they managed to bin, and that it really isn't any better or worse than any other 8-core FX chip AMD has out there. It doesn't overclock better or anything from what I've seen. I don't have one personally, but I was interested in updating my GF's tower until I saw the lack of improvements.

Base clock is 3.3ghz, 95 watt TDP. Same exact design as the previous FX series chips. nothing exciting. My understanding is that we won't see anything actually new for a couple of years. The benchmarks that I saw ranked it slightly lower than an 8350.
