So recently I recommended somebody try out the Mechwarrior franchise, and to start with MW4, ideally Mercs, because its the easiest to get into. I already had Mercs installed, and decided to install Vengeance and Black Knight. I experienced no problems with Vengeance, but when it came to Black Knight, whenever I selected the Mechlab, it would give me a error and crash the program. I spent some time searching for a solution, and I found that a solution for many was to install the patch. So I went and downloaded the patch off the web, and I ended up with this error:

"0036: Old file not found. However, a file of the same name was found. No update done since file contents do not match. [Patch] was unable to locate an an exact match for a file to be updated, although the patching utility was able to locate a file with the same name as the original file. However, the file found did not have either the same size or checksum as the file that the patching utility is seeking to update. A checksum is a count of bits done for comparison purposes."

I've tried finding solutions to this online, but so far all of the ones I've come across have not had any success. I figured that I should just ask here to see if anybody has come across this problem and found a solution (don't suggest reinstalling - if it could work, it would've done so already). If not, I think I'll just skip Black Knight, because a Mechwarrior game without the Mechlab just isn't a Mechwarrior game. I just figured I'd ask before giving up and uninstalling.

Sounds like the 0036 old file is actually missing (like it didn't install properly or your disk was scratched). My suggestion is to try installing it on an older computer (if you have one) like Windows XP, or 2000. My Black Knight, and Vengeance don't even work on Windows 7 or 8 and usually give some crash error message. The older the operating system (or closer to the Hardware Recommended) it is the better it should play (just check the comps graphics card and stuff). If you don't have one then I suggest either buying an old XP (off of Ebay or Amazon) and then getting its hardware upgraded for old gaming.
