Me and some friends have a Unit Started. [-PS-] Paragon Sect, [::PS::] has been around for years, we are a competitive group that got its start in a couple of other games, and we have INVADED MWO rahhahah!
Anyways joking set aside, I dont know anything about MWO Lore really, ive looked into and read about a few of the different houses but thats it. We've got a new recruit saying that we should PIck a house to represent. I was wondering what is exactly the point to Representing a House? Will it affect Official Unit tournaments? I notice that you also have the option to be Lonewolf or Mercs, is there a downside to representing them?
There is also a map showing the innersphere, will we be competing for planets and the like? Some more info on these subjects would be a great help, as i notice we have a grace period for Unit Faction changes, but after that it will cost money to switch. I really want our unit to get the full Experience.

Point Of A Unit Being Part Of A House?

Assuming previous remarks on Community Warfare are still valid, aligning with a specific house will allow your mercenary unit to earn loyalty points for that house faster than being a lone wolf or a generic merc as well as offering exclusive options/opportunities for remaining loyal.

Really need some more INfo on this. Being part of a house will that be a deciding factor in mechs that you can, and cant use in an official match?

House affiliation was rumored to have preferred pricing on Mechs of that faction.

But preferred pricing means wholly what, now that everyone basically owns the mechs they want?
Unless, CW brings back R&R and the cost of fielding a mech (and having it destroyed) is taken out of the unit's coffers, which in preferential prices on mechs would be extremely coveted.
