It's as fragile as a ming vase and has to have a smart heat management even without the increase of heat for the csl and cml! It would have been enough to reduce either their range OR increase their heat output.
Now that i have finally mastered the 3 variants (around 30.000.000 cbills altogether) I can bury them!
Thanks.
Does this really surprise you? It has been said many times before that this was their plan all along. Entice people with clan mechs, and then, after they have collected from their cash cow, the clans would become available for c-bills and the nerfs would come shortly after.
In short, PGI doesn't give a **** about the players, only the money.
Nobody learns though. They keep bankrolling these fools and expecting something to change.

Reducing range on CERML and CERSL? ok, that's not that bad.
Raising the heat output together with the range nerf? **** no, it's just bullshit. My nova with 6 mediums and 6 smalls is down to 0.98 heat management, and it feels like playng 12 of the old mediums. I can only immagine how horrible the stock prime variant can be.
Seriously, PGI, why the hell don't you guys learn from your past errors, and, when nerfing a weapon, you just modify one, ONE
attribute at a time, let the players go on with that change for 2 weeks, then adjust that change or add another change according to the player feedback and the data gathered in that time, and so on.
I don't want to offend anyone, but it really looks like this game is being developed by beginners. Usually i'm diplomatic, but after 2 years, i'd expect something changed. But no, you still do the same idiotic errors. It really makes me want a refound on the clan packages i bought, this is getting ridicolous.
Oh, by the way i've already found other builds that work "fine" with the new stats, so, the point is not "the nova is dead", instead, the point is "the nova as i like it is dead". I loved the 6 meds+6smals build, it was efficient both at long and short range, both as a brawler and as a sniper., but without excel in any role. Exactly as mediums are meant to do. Now, with the nerf, i have to choose betwen builds that grant me efficiency as a "mid range sniper", or as a really short range brawler/hit and run mech. the problem is, in the first case, i'm outranged by those that can mount larger weapons on their mechs, in the second case, i have neither the armor to live as a brawler or the speed to play as a hit and run mech. Now the nova is just a shallow mech, missing it's historical strenght, and role. GG close PGI...

I have never understood why they always change so many variables that it's impossible to control for any of them. There is no way to conduct any meaningful analyses the way they make these changes.

Nova can at lest put half of the lasers in each arm.
And it has an XL engine twice as durable as IS version.
And it has jumpjets.

Guess they decided to keep being aggressive.

The only one that was ever relevant was the HBK-4P, and that got singled out for a nerf for some unknown godawful reason. Oh, ghost heat on medium lasers at 6? Guess how many mechs can run more than 6 mlas? Two! HBK-4P and AWS-8Q (at least, that was the case at the time).
Not sure why Paul hates energy boats, but I certainly wish he didn't.

He hates laser boats because he runs a simulation of the game to determine what to nerf and how much. In a simulation with perfect aim of lasers they would be op. When in reality they aren't that great because humans don't have perfect aim and the enemy will torso twist to roll the damage around.

Plain and simple.
For all those who will complain about my post. I am sorry your "alpha" can't core or kill a mech in one shot anymore. I apologize that a couple of good shots can't create a one sided game where one team is "rolled" by the other. I feel bad for those who spent their hard earned money on a video game (luxury commodity purchased with disposable income) that are furious enough to stop playing the best game that "Battletech" has going for it.

FYI,
It's still possible to fire a one arm alpha and still chain fire a few more shots.
It's also still possible to chain fire the lasers in pairs and shoot 4-6 pairs before needing to cool off
It's possible to chain fire all 12 lasers one after other without shut down/cool off

they took a slight hit but not to bad.
meanwhile nova, jenner, adder and summoner (i dont care about warhawk) got the shaft to one degree or another.
Nova probably the worst of all.

I've got my Nova Mastered, and it can not even keep up now.
One of two things needs to happen, either PERK the nova for energy, or bring the CERML heat down a hair.
ooorrr... they could make double heatsinks dissipate twice the heat as single ones. Or even 1.5x as much.

I feel sorry for anyone who paid $55 for it.
However, I bought all three Kitfox on Cbills, and there is now no "great" way to run it. I used to run it with 2x cERML and 1 cLPL, but now it gets too hot, too fast. I'm trying a 2x cERLL build but its DPS is pathetically low, and it's basically doomed in the even you encounter a decent Jenner or Firestarter pilot.

Balancing was quite OK already, it actually is quite OK since a couple of nerfs - do you ever stop or are you that incapable of nerfing things so that they are finally right?
And for future nerfs (imo there´s been enough nerfs already) please activate your brain before playing around with numbers, mmmmkay?
