I just watched a Nova do 1150 dmg. It obviously far from dead. Mastered three of them without boating ML lasers on any build. There are still effective options left, you just can't boat 12 ERSL anymore. I personally thought clan range was to extreme from TT values. The heat is a pain, but clan mechs can still throw down massive amounts of damage face to face with IS mechs.

Edit: Added thougts.

Clan mechs broke TT and created this massive arms races that led to the utterly stupid Jihad power ups. Their has to be some level of parity or their will be no reason to even play.

Pretty disappointing.

There were only 4 Clan mechs I was even excited about, and the Nova was one. Like a lot of the complain-ee's, I like the laser boat version, and generally opt out of the ballistic builds.. But yeah, it's unplayable. Even the version I like to run (10 ERML + Computer,) is pretty impossible, now, because mine aren't mastered. I all ready disliked losing 5 weapons per arm with no other option in the first place, but now the sustained DPS is minuscule due to having to let heat filter out.

Oh, and fighting in the crater on Caustic? Terra Therma? lolgg. Wish I hadn't brought my nova.

+1 for the idea of giving the nova's a quirk or something to make it playable. I can think of quite a few mechs who would benefit from something like that, honestly..

As I've said in my other posts, the clan DID need a nerf. Should it have affected the Nova like this?

... no.

And, lastly, the edit, for @Kali Rinpoche: Really glad someone did well. Good for them. Sadly, that's not the nova being 'fine', and boating 12ERSL wasn't what half of us wanted to do. We wanted to play it as intended with ERML, of course. But if he scored that much damage, and, honestly, didn't die - that's the enemy team's mistake, not so much proof that Novas work fine.

While the stock build has indeed become non-viable, the Blackhawk still is quite capable of running builds which can average over 400 dmg. per match. I've been using 6x cERML + 5x cMG. It isn't going to be able to compete with a Timberwolf or a Dire Wolf, no, but the Blackhawk does better than an Inner Sphere 'mech of the same tonnage (and better than many that are heavier than it).

this kinda confirms that the Nova is dead, if you do not boat many lasers on the nova, you don't need to use a nova, other clanmechs can do this as well. The Nova will be dead because its way harder o use thna other mechs who cna do the same just better. Just because the nova still works, does not mean its not inferior. And anyone doing well in the Nova can do way better in other mechs. But in 100% competitive gameplay, no one would use a Nova.

Who would use a dragon in competitive play, but it still exists and so will a Nova. Learn to use the mechbay and grow a pair people.

I never ran it as a Prime with 12 ERML,
I ran it with 4 ERML 2SL and 4mg, THAT loadout is still extremely hot with 22 DHS, and if you consider it boating...
really...
http://mwo.smurfy-ne...ca167d9d3ad591b
____________________________________________________________________________
The most I ever ran was 6 ERML, because it was the only build that could sustain any kind of brawl and not melt itself down.
http://mwo.smurfy-ne...a3b88e17197cfeb
This build is no longer sustainable, and that is with 21 DHS and its not even a threat compared to any heavier mech, even stormcrow that can stack on SRM's or LRM's.

I never even attempted the 12 ERML build, because it was just stupid hot even for the perfect scenario where you could keep your distance enough to have cooldowns.

The mech was pretty balanced IMO, not on range, but on heat, things were decent.
The arms and legs are so easily chopped off its not even funny.

And no Im not going to put 12 smalls on it, It doesn't have the armor to play that game, and odds are I'll never get close enough to use it.

And I never payed for it, this is the CB version, and I worked my ass off to buy all 3 just to have one mastered Nova-S.

Nova desperately needs some perks on energy.

The Nova isn't dead you just need to have better heat management to make it work. Isn't the idea of any "boat" build that it has more of 1 weapon type then is normally practical? You have to be very careful if you fire them all at once, but if you manage your heat right you can alpha and cause massive damage. Obviously if you could fire them all, without worrying about heat, everyone would calling for nerf, nerf, nerf. I tried my Nova builds and they still work fine for me. Yes you have to watch your heat and pick your shots carefully, but isn't that what Mechwarrior is supposed to be about?

*coughs*

Lesson here is never pay for pre-orders from PGI, you'd think people including myself would have learned that by now.

Still MWO lead designer is off to make PGI's next fail game.

Hopefully the replacement will have a clue, and save what has, extremely slowly, been turned into a PoS.

I played a lot more than usual on weekend, around 16 hours total, And have not seen a single dragon.

yes and no, The Nova can't compete properly because it can not sustain a proper DPS. Its heating up horribly, then stales either a very low dps, or none at all. Or you go full 12 CERML, meaning a high damage output followed by a looong cooldown phase making overall dps very low too. And if you build a "heat efficient" build by removing weapons it hardly can bring some decent dps compared to other clanners. I can throw 4xSRM 6 in a adder and throw more dps out, because no heat troubles.
Watching steps and heat? yes this is supposed to be Mechwarrior, but no other Mech feels so horribly unbalanced in terms of "unforgiving" to mistakes. Take any other mech and you can perform well too, but without the constant feeling of: "do the slightliest wrong and you are done"

Why release a standerd mech with 12xml if there is no chance in hell that you will be able to play with it.

Bought all 3 Nova's when it was released for c-Bills (WASTED 30MIL C-BILLS) and mastered all of them, Have to say after this patch I regret getting it and I wasted how many hours to get them fully unlocked. I dont even feel like playing this game anymore !!!

I really do not know what PGI is doing always messing with the wrong stuff, when last did we get a new map or gameplay option.

Was looking forward to getting a direwolf end of this month, but the way its going they will most probably break something so that, that mech is unplayable as well.

You guys/gals crack me up.... While the heat got a bit worse and the distance is less I can still successfully run my nova's just as well as I could before... Anyone trying to run 12MLs or 12SLs is just asking for it, and I have never ran that many lasers on that ship...

I run 8MLs (4 on each arm) with 4MG's and have ZERO problems taking arms and legs off in a hurry... If you watch your heat and make sure you have the room to play with you can still alpha a timber, or Dire and dang near core them. Get behind either one of them and it WILL core them about 98% of the time...

Now, I understand everyone wants that end all be all face shredding mech that is in fantasy land. However the nova could not fire all 12MLs before the nerf either without melting. I see SOOooooo many trying to run this mech and one of a few things happen.

1. They melt themselves right off the bat.
2. They run out in front only to find the other team waiting for them, scream oh crap, and proceed to melt themselves.
3. They run straight at the enemy in the open and expect the nova to melt the enemy only to find that the nova as little armor, and they melt themselves again...

I ran mine last night, and was getting top damage and top kills/assists... Run this ship as a second line brawler and stay with the team. Wait and have patience for the #$@! to hit the fan (it usually does) and focus fire with the team and you'll see heat really isn't that big of a problem and you'll be melting arms and components with ease. Simply fire 4 and just before that cycle ends fire the other four. You can maintain that for a few volleys, and fire up the machine guns... My point is DO NOT be the first there and DO NOT put yourself in a situation where you have got to worry about putting out enough damage very fast and you'll see this ship still rocks...

If you want to run the 12MLs build simply fire 4x4x4. It will work...

agreeing with catalina after finally trying mine with the changes.

You need to run as a support mech to others. Now the changes have greatly reduced what you can do with it but you need trigger discipline now and more so than before. 12SL stills works, you can still use them in small groups just realize you can't be in front anymore trying to dish out the damage.

i was running 6ML + 2 LL and heat wasn't super bad but again,

no matter what, you get way less volleys before you need to cool down which is why you can't be alone

Yep. We told you on the test server that the Nova was unusable with the increased heat, yet as predicted you did not listen. Now you have a lot of people who spent both real money as well as a large amount of c-bills to purchase a Mech that they can no longer use.

Edit: So after 2 volleys of 6 medium lasers with the mech mastered, I'm at 98% heat, and it takes a full 9 SECONDS before I can fire again! That is of course if I am not burning my JJ's to get the hell out of there before I get my face melted off by an IS light who runs 60 KPH FASTER than me and carries far more heat efficient lasers which do nearly the same DPS for less heat. What the hell sense does this make? On the stock build without efficiency increases, one volley takes me to 60%, and I cant fire again for 4 seconds or I will shout down. Your changes make no sense especially considering the Nova was DESIGNED to fire 12 ******* medium lasers!

Either quirk the Nova with an additional 20% Increased heat dissipation, or rollback the heat changes to something a little less idiotic

Since when did PGI ever listen to it's players? Remember how most of us were against third person view? PGI ignored us and implimented it anyway? Way to go, PGI.

Y'all have to stop the mimimi and learn to mechlab. Those nerfs were long overdue and I still do pretty damn well in my Nova.

Yeah - shred them into pieces !

You can do well in a NOVA but you can do better in a TimberWolf.

The same thing happened to the trebuchet when it came out... one week it was fine the next lrms were nerfed(although that time there was an actual problem with splash damage for lrms). I figure it will take them about 2 months(hopefully) to fix whatever issues that they have this time around. It took them longer to fix the treb., but this doesnt have a damage registration issue.

The range nerfs were indeed long overdue, but the heat nerfs are highly questionable at least at the % that were applied.
Especially in the case of the C-Smalls getting a 50% heatup.

For 2 smalls, you're getting the same heat as 1 ERML, 1 more damage, a huge drop in range.

IMO, smalls should be backups in close quarters so you can still be firing while your primaries cooldown, at 50% more heat you start firing smalls and your running as hot as if you were still blasting with your primaries.

nova Is still capable of running some very powerful assymetrical corner peaking builds. Though I think the pulse and small laser nerfs went too far.

i'd be ok with the SL getting the original heat value back. I am ok with the range bit actually though the original 180m wasn't a problem either.

There is no build I can create that can use all the Laser hardpoints which shows me the NVA-Prime is a useless mech. Try firing 4x4x4 and let me how many you get through before you shut down. If you cannot take the Stock variation out with SOME success whats the point in purchasing it? Or even using the trial?

Also killed 2 of my Adders, had small lasers and missles or PPC and small lasers and they are under .90 efficiency now. One is .84.....why was it necessary to add heat to SML? ER MED range was all that was needed the heat that you have added with this nerf coupled with the addition of im sure more heat nerfs and the added ST Lose heat escalation will cause me to shelf these mechs. Depending on the rest of the Clan mech releases I may just sell the Adders and Novas at this point for mechbays.
