I don't want to have my characters playing both Clan and Inner Sphere mechs as there was no overlap in 3050. It also makes team warfare confusing to have the same user name on both sides.

Is it alright to have one account with my IS mechs (and IS character) and a second account for my Clan Mech (and clan character)?

Will PGI allow this?

Lots of people do that, but I think you have to have separate email accounts.

I thought about the same. But I don´t want to have to unlock all the modules (and the few colors I have) again. So I think I will rather switch sides from time to time.

Yes, you can have multiple accounts for gameplay.

You CANNOT use multiple accounts to bypass the forums terms of use. (so don't go using multiple accounts to support your own arguments, pad polls, or to harass players under the cover of anonymity, etc)

This is one of the many reasons why I was hoping the Clan / IS would be handled as a split-account, where you have PlayerX IS and PlayerX Clan. Separate incomes, separate mechbays, two separate faction thingies. And if you don't want to play IS or play Clan, you just never use that side.

Also would have been great for R&R, assuming it ever does come back.

Please stop. Robocraft is the most recent example of turning players away with that stupid idea. R&R does not work in a multiplayer setting.

World of Tanks, War Thunder. Of the two War Thunder is a much better example. With bad games I still make good income, and with great games I make great income. The better I play, the better my R&R costs are. My best match so far I had 7 kills and no damage because when shots were coming at me I was quick to bring the strong side of my armor to bare and to use cover to my advantage. Of course, the tree I was using to protect myself with fell over and I was unable to move for a short while (as it landed on me), working my way out of that was a 2 minute hassle and required Lordred to come over and ram the tree off of me.

But it does work with a competent developer and a good design.

It also has a mode that is R&R free for those who don't want it. A bit of an integral part, actually.

Example: CW, R&R. Public random matches, no R&R.

While I personally don't like R&R, Robocraft's method was not bad at all. I was still making money even on my bad games. As long as I could get a couple of hits on someone, my expenses were mostly paid for. Then again, I'm a tier 2 player, don't know much about how costly the Tier 10 stuff is to repair.

The biggest difference between robocraft and MW:O, is that you almost never get one shot, especially not without dealing damage. While in MW:O. It's quite possible for a light mech to make an unfortunate run into a dual AC 20 mech, and drop dead without so much as dealing 1 damage. Repairing 3 slots of an XL engine, plus any DHS or other equipment that was in there, will easily cost more than the 50,000 you get for winning (that's if you win. If you lose you get even less), and causes players to lose money.

Unless they adjust the rewards, adding R&R with the lore costs, will force people to play snipe fests even more than ever.

Yes, and if you play badly, the higher tiers become pay to play, because the grind increases exponentially. Robocraft does the same thing, only the point of low returns is set incredibly low.

Multiple accounts are no problem, but you need to be aware of a few things.
- (Forums) You can't use your other accounts to reinforce your own statements on the forums or to manipulate polls.
- (Forums) You may not use those other accounts to circumvent a forum ban or other punishment you recieved.
- (Ingame and Forums) You are responsible for all your accounts. If you misbehave with one, all of them can be effected for punishment.

If you simply want to seperate your Clan and your IS mechs, there will most likely be no problem ever. So go ahead and do it and enjoy the game!

Full disclosure: I've had multiple accounts for like three years. So don't worry about it as long as you don't break the rules :)

Greetings all,

Just in from the 'Town Hall' stream with Russ Bullock.

Once the Pilot chooses a Faction they will be Locked into that type of Mech choice.
- If you own both types now and choose a Clan Faction you can only operate Clan Mech's.
- Same with an IS Faction, only IS Mech's.

Choose wisely young Padawan.

(Once your in a Unit, you assume that Units Faction choice. So this may be where only one type of Mech is allowed. And single Pug play is open to whatever?)

This is actually more in line with the canon and Lore as how Factions operated Mech's, but not detailed down to only certain chassis being available to certain Factions.

There was nothing stated about how Merc's will be handled and if they can operate either?

As it looks like having two accounts will/may be the only way a long time supporter of MWO will be able to play both types of Mechs. This is not something I prefer to do.

That can't be right. To say nothing of the other problems with this, what becomes of the faction players who paid real money for both Inner Sphere and Clan 'mechs? That'd be an awful lot of money wasted on 'mechs that are no longer able to be piloted, to say nothing of the complete disenfranchisement of every mechwarrior who loves 'mechs on both sides.

Rather than becoming agitated over a rumor, I'll wait for an official statement about this. If confirmed by Mr. Bullock, however ...

Mechs, pilot skills, modules, one-shot camos. Buh-bye to half the things you have in MWO.

Well, why don't we wait and see what the man actually said, instead of having a riot over someone else's interpretation?

If you are playing as an IS pilot, in CW, you should not be allowed to use clan mechs, and vice versa. In normal queues, you can jump into any mech you want. CW is for roleplaying. No IS pilot should have access to a clan mech until the late 3050s, early 3060s, right before the Jihad, and even then, not many do have access to clan mechs.

The least friction would be to have faction choice on a per-mech basis.

nope, if that means I can use clans for IS forces, then no.
