PGI has based the game on a almost 30 Year old franchise ... and the MG is only a support weapon , like the AC2, the bigger weapons are the king of the battlefield, except for The game that took the Mechwarrior name ...

Give me a break. In TT the machine gun does 2 damage to a battlemech with short/med/long ranges of 1,2,3 hexes. It is light weight, has no heat, and if you fit 10 MGs at a total of 5 tons weight you will do the same damage as an AC20 but have a lot more rolls, chances to get criticals, but also distributed damage. Of course you need to get within 1 hex to maximize your to hit chances but there has to be a down side to something like that.

But MWO is not battletech and it shouldn't be. Battletech is a 10s/turn board game while MWO is a real time on-line video game shooter sharing much of the same lore and some of the same numbers. In MWO people aim, in TT folks roll dice.

In general, I actually agree with most of the balancing actions taken by PGI ... though I disagree with some of the design. (i.e. there were other choices for ECM than the all or nothing way they implemented it ... but that is another topic :) ).

Where do people get the idea that "support" weapons are not supposed to be effective, much less kill.

Heck, these so-called "support" weapons sure put great fear in the hearts of people who faced them long ago:
