So I got the Atlas D recently, while it was on sale, and I plan on getting the D-DC in the future, hopefully on a sale. Of course, I'm going to be getting a third as well, to open the elite tier efficiencies, which leaves me with the K, the RS, and the Boar's Head. I'm not interested enough in the Boar's Head for the price it carries, so I'm left with the RS and the K. The K interests me because of its dual-AMS, considering how LRM intensive the game has been since the addition of the Clans, the K's center-torso energy mounts also really intrigue me, though the RS seems to have more mid-to-long range viability due to two weapon mounts in each arm alongside two missile hardpoints.

Anybody have any opinions? While it seems that the RS is more favoured than the K, I don't want to skip over the K, with its dual AMS, without hearing some opinions first.

Atlas RS most definitely. It's cheaper, and closer to the D so it wouldn't be hard to just shift a few things around like engines and weaponry, with a bit more tacked on. I've played all the variants of the Atlai, though the BH I played in the PTS(It was actually a blast). K was just awful. You think you've got more options, but when it comes down to it the extra mounts just aren't worth it and the AMS really that useful in the long run because you're sacrificing slots.

The K is just plain bad. D, DDC, and RS are the best for mastering your Atlai. Unless you want to spend money for the BH which I advise against.

RS. At least the RS can bring builds unique from the other atlases, the K only offers an XL engine (which you should immediately move to a different mech) and an extra AMS slot which is not really worth it,

I don't remember the RS from when I elited my Atlas' but I kept the DDC and K.

K gets a lot of hate, but I like it. The dual AMS is definitely useful. More than that, the hardpoints are a little limited, which forces you to use a few large, hard hitting weapons and then you have plenty of tonnage left over to put a big standard engine in it. Standard all the way on this guy though. XL in Atlas is a no go.

The part about the K that sucks is the up front investment. Because it comes with an XL it costs quite a bit more than the other Atlas'. However, you do get a nice XL engine for something else if you need it.

Loved the K from closed beta and dual AMS at times is incredibly handy,i run it with dual PPC,dual med laser and an AC20 plus 4t ammo for the dual AMS.Yes,it gets hot and yes the PPC's have a 90m deadzone, but having 40 pinpoint shot with no burn time is nice, more time to twist.

Atlas K only if you need XL300 for something else. It is a great mech, but built poorly stock.

I liked the K back in the day before ECM. The dual AMS was really nice back when there was no other defense vs missiles. I used the 300xl engine on my Catapults, Jagermechs, Cicadas, Jenners and some others that I've probably forgotten (note do NOT use them on a Stalker or Atlas).

Only buy the K if you want a deal on the 300xl engine. It's just OK because you need to run something like an AC 20, lrm 15-20, and 2 Large lasers. There's really not much else you can do with it. The old best build was nerfed....... 3 Large lasers (or pulse lasers) due to ghost heat.

Honestly you won't play the RS Atlas much. Why? Because it was best with 4 large lasers and ghost heat ruined that build.

If you're playing the Atlas you're probably playing the founders Atlas (very nice even in zombie mode) or the DDC for ECM. The only reason to own a 3rd Atlas is just for the grind. In short it doesn't matter which one you get as they both have become useless due to ghost heat.

Of the Atlases, the K was the only one who did not get any hardpoint inflation (beyond an extra AMS). Without hardpoint inflation on the other models, the K would be identical to the D minus one missile hardpoint in exchange for an AMS hardpoint.

If this were Battletech, I'd choose the K hands down. It's a fantastic mech. Truly suitably worthy of the fact that it's 22 million cbills in BT.

But this is Mechwarrior Online and as such it's subject to how MWO works. The RS is the only choice you really have. Sadly. Some day down the line you might get the K to satisfy an urge to make the game more challenging or just for doing it. It just won't be any time soon.

Maybe where PGI failed us in giving ECM to the "most technologically advanced Atlas" (the K), perhaps they could redeem it with quirks in the future?

Anyone telling you to get a K for the 300 XL is kind of silly. There is ZERO reason to run an XL in an Atlas first off, second you're not getting that 300 XL for free - it's in the price of the K itself.

Stick with the RS.

(Ghost heat doesn't mean much.) Two Atlases. RS in the second match after 4 mins.

There's also the Epic Rush.
It requires standard heatsinks to pull off back then because the Large class lasers were reasonably warm. Now they are cold so DHS will suffice. (In large numbers you can outdo anything DHS can do with SHS).

Personally I find 4 LPL to be extremely effective as of late. Each set of 2 hits harder than an AC/20 and it has 350 meters of optimal range.

That's silly, no one is suggetsting that you run the XL in the K. You buy the K because it has 2 AMS points and because it comes with an engine that you'll eventually buy anyway for use in other mechs. Honestly, I don't know why anyone would take an Atlas that lacks CT hardpoints when it can't mount ECM.

I like the K

My build (support atlas)

http://mwo.smurfy-ne...f616f51e8606f65

My RS (also a support atlas)

http://mwo.smurfy-ne...3bb86d172ff3d20

I don't pilot Assualt class much (prefer heavy/medium)

But I PREFER the K over the RS because the Medlaser are CT mounted vs Arm mounted

I'm not really a proper assault driver, so take this with a grain of salt, but I don't really like my K. Of course, I bought for the engine it when it was really cheap and I was basically getting the mech for only a little more price than the engine in it. I've tried a couple of different things with it, but I just never feel like I have enough hardpoints. Probably because I'm used to lights with the same number or more in them.

I think people have a problem with the lack of missiles, because they are focused on firepower more than on survivability. Meaning, people who dislike the K do not know how to Atlas.

For anyone interested, STD350, AC20+3xLL, or STD335, AC20+2xLL+2xML+NARC. Always dual AMS. The one missile hardpoint has a use: free NARC assists and easy focus fire without chat.

Atlas K is over priced for a second AMS. Out of the two the RS is the better buy because per C-Bill it just is. The RS is also able to have similar builds to the Boars Head which is also another good Atlas in the game.

As has been noted before the K comes with a fantastic XL engine that should be removed asap and used elsewhere.

If your sole aim is mastering the atlas as it seams to be, then buy the K during a sale, doesn't matter if RS is better or not since it's going to end in the same place -> the sell interface, with a difference though with the K you'll have bought a great XL engine at 35% discount.

I run my K like This

http://mwo.smurfy-ne...b72df1453ce2982

I have a total blast with it. Granted I only played about 20 matches or so in it but it makes an effective brawler. And I like how it is. Lose your RT? Still got 3 ML and a SRM6! Lose the Left and you have the AC20 (and 3 ML)! When I lose both torsos I find it doesn't matter much as I'm going down within the next 5 seconds.

I faced the same dilemma and went with the K because I had a good use for that XL300 elsewhere. In terms of hardpoints....it's an atlas so that means dakka in the RT, Missiles in the LT and pew-pew in the arms and maybe CT. It's not like there's truly so much variation, just that there are some builds that (only) work in certain variants. I had a really good run with the K, Mastered the Atlas and now I'm still buying myself an RS because I want to try that 4 LPL version for s's and giggles.
