No, they still need it. The got the publishing rights from IGP. They still have to keep the licensing from Microsoft renewed annually or after however many years the contract stipulates. If Microsoft decides to pull the plug PGI needs another revenue stream to keep afloat.

I think last time they said they have the license for like 2-3 years? There's still plenty of time to improve MWO before it expires. But instead they chose to put their efforts into another game, which could even become the death of MWO if it becomes successful if it doesn't have a costly license that needs to be renewed. I find it very unlikely, but either way as the new game becomes more demanding it's just wishful thinking it won't have an impact on MWO. They said themselves they just have a small team now and hope to get funded like MWO by founders. If they don't get the funding they need, all bets are off where they will put the workload.

Why would one product making money affect the other product making money? And the license is closer to 6 years, btw.
An analogy: One guy offers you 200 dollars to do job A and another offers you 100 for job B that you can work on while you do job A, why not do both and have 300, rather than trying to decide which one to do?

Because if the cost of of earning 100 is equal to earning 200, then it would suddenly make sense to put all your effort into the business that earns you 200 each time with all your capacity. But as I said, it's highly unlikely this new game will be successful if it's really a space sim. It's much more likely the new game will be nothing more than added expenses which will need to be covered, from a very obvious source.

Whoever believed that PGI could base their business on a single product without even holding the ip rights must be very young or very dumb.

Next game announcement was bound to happen. I just hope the new game appeals to someone and makes them money.

However they should have proven they could complete a product before launching a second.

Well I put my bets on what always happens when a company has staff over multiple projects....they get leeched and very rarely return.

Perhaps it's a new era. I'm not saying give them the benefit of the doubt, but let's see where this takes us. If MWO remains profitable, and PGI is able to deliver the content they've stated they would in a timely manner and/or improve the game and expand it, I have absolutely no problem with them shuttling money/personnel from MWO to whatever this new game is. Businesses do that sort of thing all the time. Heck, I've rarely worked in a job in which all my attention was focused on one project, but that's because I work for/with the military. Deadlines are still met and the job(s) are accomplished. At the end of the day, it's their responsibility to make sure their business survives. If they mismanage it then it won't survive.

Probably something to do with Game of Thrones and the zombies there.

If I had a c-bill for every time someones said a game was dead and it was fine, I'd have every single clan omni setup possible in my mechbay.

to be fair, the last episode I saw (I think 8x03) made as much sense as the all-time-nascar here in mwo ;)

i was sooooooo annoyed by that last episode

the complete misuse of all troops/terrain/tactics
and then the resolution at the end
and the unable to see 40% of the episode because too dark
