Hello all,
I recently started playing MWO and persuaded my friend to join me. The problem is he is french and his english isn't quite good. So, I wonder if there is any way to change languages in MWO's client. If not, will there be a plan for future implements of languages in game?
Thank you.

It is only English, and no current plan to make a localized version. I think German would get dibs before French as there are a lot of Germans that play (guessing from some of the chat at odd hours).

Hi my french friend,

there is no complete localisation at the moment, but can happen in the future (as many other things).

There are some ideas to add a command/com rose to the interface (like in CS or other FPS) which should make the com easier for non english speakers. Thats all what I know concerning this, a better and solid Information about that could come from the officials.

Thank you for quick reply. Guess I'll have to help him a bit with important stuff.

Yeah, should not be that hard to learn because the most things are Mechwarrior related stuff and more or less common.

Later problem could be the communication if he want to play in teams. I know there are French Units out there (just look into the French forums).

I'm sure the French Units are verry happy and kind to new players.

Thank you again for your helpful information. I do look forward to better communication in MWO. Language does sometimes seem a barrier.

Seeing as PGI is a Canadian company and french is one of the 2 official languages here, i can see them adding it easily if they wanted too.

a lot of what we see are art assets, so that is a major undertaking doing localisation.

As to the language barrier, my Clan was half German at one point and most of them played with a English->German dictionary beside them as that was their only daily exposure to English. It does slow things down a bit, but it is still manageable as long as the person is willing.
