Can you spot which mechs are in the wrong bundle?

Well that takes the fun out of it.

I see no problem with these two counted as lights since they're better lights than 35 tonners. Posted Image

I think they should let you mix and match mechs from different classes anyways, each mech being worth some sort of "points" (perhaps based on their MC value) and letting you add them up to a certain amount in whatever combination you wish.

They appear to be sorted by MC cost rather than weight class, which seems appropriate to me. That's why some mechs aren't in the correct weight class.

For example if the Blood Kit, Darkdeath, and X-5 were in the medium section and you chose them over more expensive mechs like the Pakhet or Breaker you wouldn't be getting as much of your money's worth.

This sale has discouraged me from playing this weekend. It just shows how much PGI cares about certain details like 'mech weight classes. They really should have called it something different instead of claiming they're all by weight class.

The medium, heavy, and assault bundles are really, really great values. You can stack up 'Mechs to the tune of ~$100 worth of MC and come away with a nice pile of the strongest heroes. I'm gonna use the 6500mc for $29.95 package as a baseline for comparison since that's the closest one in price to the dropship deal packages...

Examples of really good combinations ('Mechs that perform well in the game right now):

Assault pack- Deathstrike, Scorch, Sleipnir. Total 19875mc. Effective discount: 67% off normal mc price.
Heavy pack- Virago, Powerhouse, Top Dog, Bounty Hunter II. Total 21470mc. Effective discount: 70% off.
Medium pack- High Roller, IV-Four, Legend Killer, Pakhet, Ghillie. Total 21565mc. Effective discount: 70% off.

The light pack is a significantly weaker value, regardless of what you get- even if you take the absolute maximum mc value, you're gonna come in right around the 50% off mark (just shy of 16000mc worth, with all three 40-ton battlemechs, both 35-ton Omnimechs, and a 30-ton Omni), which means getting light heroes in this pack only makes sense if you would have bought all of the same selections in the next major in-game hero sale. For some combinations, the value doesn't reach the 50% mark- so calculate out what the total mc value of your picks would be before you commit to it, because you might be better off waiting (whereas with the other three packs, you're guaranteed to be getting a better price per 'Mech than in any other hero sale PGI has offered). The "regular" sales are probably better if you're buying lights because you can stack discounts with a bonus mc sale and end up getting a way better price per 'Mech than the dropship deals pack will give you- dunno the exact math; I've crunched about as many numbers as my brain has patience for already.

*edit: ...and just to prove that I shouldn't do too much math in one sitting, I totally forgot to account for the value of the mechbays, which would not be included with the 'Mechs when they go on sale in-game, and are never available for lower than 50% off. So, add 900mc of value to the assault pack, 1200 to the heavy pack, 1500 to the medium pack, and 1800 to the light pack. That still doesn't make the light pack worth getting unless there are six light (or CDA, ASN, ACW) heroes you absolutely must have, so I'm not changing my assessment.

TL;DR: if you can fill out a "medium", "heavy", or "assault" pack with 'Mechs you want, this is the either the best or next best price you're ever likely to get on them; they're a solid value, and worth spending the money for. The "light" pack, however, is iffy compared to the 50% off hero sales PGI has run in the past, and you may want to take a pass on that.

PGI changed the names from "light, medium, heavy, assault" to "Group 1, Group 2, Group 3, Group 4". The groups are by MC cost not weight.

Bought some out of Group 3 and 4 and much disappoint. Mostly energy/missile boats which aren't my cup of tea. Could throw LRMs on them but what is the fun of that?
