The only reason I love this game and have come to have known it is because of Mechassault. Could someone just briefly, in 10 or less sentences, run me down on the storyline differences? I rememeber the main enemy in Mechassault was the so-called "Word of Blake", and the protagonist was a member of some group called the "Wolf Dragoons" or "Wolf's Dragoons"?

Am I essentially back in time, or does Mechwarrior Online take place AFTER Mechassault?

Also, if possible to say, will Mechwarrior Online ever provide access to Mechassault Mechs? I'm not familiar with 90% of the Mechs in this game. The ones I am familiar with are the Atlas, Summoner, Catapult, and Timberwolf.

Just to mention a few Mechs in the Mechassault series that might exist in the Mechwarrior universe unbeknown to me: Cougar (Puma), Uziel (Belial), Raptor (Stiletto), Vulture (Mad Dog), Nova Cat (Wendigo), and Star Adder (Blood Asp).

Do any of these Mechs exist in the MWO universe? Thank you in advance.

Well essentially, in mechassault you are playing after the clan invasion, during the word of Blake's rein as they try to find all of the datacores. We know since the W.O.B. Doesn't exist yet in mwo, therefore mechassault takes place after the clan invasion( what were in currently) and sometime during the WOB's attempted conquest of the galaxy.

Hope this helps.

P.s. I really wish they included a date in mechassault! :P

Blood asp
Ymir
Uziel
Elemental
Hackman

Don't exist in mwo as far as my knowledge is as of 3months ago when I played mwo! :P

Word of Blake is a big faction that popped up in the Inner Sphere and started nuking a lot of places. It's FAR into the future right now. The era when they start blowing stuff up is known as The Jihad. We're still in 3049 right now, and that one start until 3067.

As for the mechs you are mentioning, Mech Assault used mechs from the Battletech franchise (mechwarrior is part of that), so almost all of them will be in this game. Some of the mechs you mentinoed are clan mechs that aren't here yet.

EDIT: Btw, the Puma is going to be available for MC later this month. It's also known as the Adder. The Cougar is a different mech.

You guys are beyond helpful. I'm already loving the Mechwarrior community. Great. Now I'm enlightened about basic knowledge of the MWO Universe.

That's what this forum is for my friend.

I'm a huge lore buff, and it's what I enjoy in games like this one, and Warhammer 40K. I'm pretty sure I've had days where I spent more time on Sarna, than in-game.

The current year in MWO is 3050. The Word of Blake doesn't start until about 3067, and a lot happens between 3050 and 3067. It doesn't start until the FEdCom civil war is over, the FedCom civil war being between Steiner and Davion.

The nice thing about this game is the fact that the timeline is in link with real time.

I agree. That's probably one of the coolest features any game has ever introduced. Although that means we have to wait another decade before the World of Blake attacks. <_<

Actually 3049 since they bumped us back a year.

For further basic knowledge of the MWO universe:

This will provide you with a basic overview of the history to this point. Hope it helps somewhat!

Not really. We're expecting some time jumps possibly, to help cover the few empty years with no big events.

I can do it in less:

1) Everything in Mechassault is wrong and a horrible affront to everything good and wonderful about Battletech.
2) Forget everything from that game.
3) Profit.

Longer than that. The Jihad didn't start until late 3067 or 3068 I wanna say. So you're looking at closer to 20.

http://www.battletech.com/eras/

Much easier reading for a brief rundown of everything from the the start to end.

I didn't care for Mechassault myself. BT/MW games just never translated well into an acrade type shooter for me.

And you are correct Jihad started in 3068 and ran until the start of the Dark Age in 3081.

Dino, let me cordially invite you to fall down the rabbit hole, chasing the white rabbit: http://mwomercs.com/...ore-start-here/

And here's a particularly interesting corner of the lore: http://mwomercs.com/...y-an-education/ (if it weren't interesting, I would have never spent the time to write this!).
