Hello MechWarriors. Many people have wondered where the all chat is. It is now a toggle option in the settings! You can find the settings in the lower right hand corner of the game UI, or in match by hitting escape and clicking "Settings." These options are at the bottom of the tab that shows up first (they show up around the middle of the screen, under notification settings).

The "ENABLE ALL CHAT" option is toggled off by default. Click the check box to enable it. Or leave it off if you enjoy the silence.

Have fun, and I hope this helped!

I am glad they added this feature. I would have prefered opt-out instead of opt-in but this acceptable. It may make it harder for a new player to get information about the game. But it will prevent some trolling, even though mwo is relatively troll-free in-game. Any new players should consult the new player guides that are available on these forums, reddit, and fan websites.

I wonder though the all chat feature if it is turned off and some one hit 'T' would what they type go in the team chat automatically or do they have to hit the team chat button in game? I ask because I am sure many of us have seen it where some one accidentally hits the wrong button and types information to the enemy when they meant for it to go to only their team.

I just had to do a search to find out why i couldn't type in all-chat and found this thread..i thought it was bugged :P

Off by default lol. I should have realized. Just think of how doing something makes sense (like in any other game) and PGI will do the opposite

Pressing T with all chat turned off does nothing.

Have to hit Y for team chat. Found than out during first game because I failed to read the patch notes...

Im wonder if anyone else out there uses:
  • L for Lance
  • ; for Team
  • ' for Global
I find it flows better for me, been using ; and ' a long time. Just got lucky with Lance landing on L. ^_^
Now I am starting to wonder about peoples other quirky key bindings..

I went and unchecked every bit of chat possible the instant I got the toggles. No more 'trail of fail' for me thanks.

It, just.. a long time ago they had a saying that fits quite well here, "Do not throw out the baby with the bathwater". The potential gain is higher than the potential risk. Thus many other bummer arise. You are of course free to do as you please, I just hope it means you are in v-com with a lance of friends.

Ive since seen you associate with the Seraphim and as such I understand your stance on social exclusion.

Except when I'm solo pugging, I'm in TS with my unit. I still have text off because of 2 reasons.

1. I do not need to listen to trolls, abusive language and stupid advice from the dead telling me I should go get killed so they can get back in their mech.

2. It keeps me from violating my team's code of conduct for making comments to people who act that way in the chat.

Push to talk is your friend and really it's a much more pleasing experience without it.

Cheers, but like I said, I noticed. ~_^
Push to talk is no friend of mine, but its a necessary evil when I am in multiple simultaneous communication programs.

Well that is extra sad for me (though given your complaints about GG it is not surprising)

But then, I react faster to what I read than to what I hear. :(

Most people do (what you do)

Or so it seems.
Price of being different from others.

apparently I multitask too well. I can read chat while fighting. So bubye distraction. Too bad I can't socialize with friends through it, but it's still better I keep it shut down.

In the lances and teams I frequent, a little more than half of the people do their best to pass information around. Be it relaying possibly important texts in v-com, or echoing v-com information in text to whomever may be looking for it. Its an information network that does not always benefit action, however there are times it has swayed the outcome of a fight or even the battle.

In the solo queue, there is too much Rambotardia, so I don't bother trying to help anymore. After months of trying to keep people from going up Mount Derp to die in the PUG Zapper on Terra Derpa, or not charge Theta like a bunch of idiots on Conquest mode, I gave up. In the group queue, nobody listens to chat anymore because they're in TS or they also have Rambotardia.

Too much noise to signal in the chat feature.

Wish I could say I didn't get that in the group que as well.

I have been informed many times that being part of a solid group helps that, and it is kinda no duh

However - not everyone CAN be in a dedicated group (even a casual one) and for those of us left pugging in either que.....

There is no difference other than the lack of (active and dedicated!) groups like the Lords giving the same attitude that caused you to turn it off in the first place.
