Since Unit Creation is coming up, I thought about bringing up the topic of having unit colors. When starting up your unit as the leader, you should have the colors that you bought at your disposal. You could choose as many colors as you see fit, even if you have other sub-units. If a new member entered your unit, they could pick those colors right off the bat. This would be helpful for members who don't have the money to pay for the colors. After all, if you're going to represent the unit, you need to get the gear right?

I would like very much to see this feature

I would also like to see an override feature for unit commanders to enable so that people dont need to change their paint individualy
Alot of players spend as much time im solo que as groups
People take great pride in their paint and spend alot of time getting each mech just right
A override for commanders would allow for fast application of unit paint/uniform to be temporarily applied to a group and preserve peoples own setups

I think the color system should work as it does now and the colors+pattern to be unlocked for a unit should cost real money. But once set by the unit commander the player can have a toggle in the UI to use their paint scheme or the unit paint scheme on their mechs.

Players can keep their individuality with an easy flip of the switch while they can also choose to represent their unit anytime they like. The rights to change or buy this can be assigned through the rank rights and then its up to the individuals if they want to spend the money to add more color options to the units color/pattern selection.

The flip side to this is buying a unit pattern/color will probably cost a bit more than the individual ones as it'd be applied to all mechs for whatever the people with the rights set it to rather than just the mech or chassis.

Yes absolutely. This should go across the way, applying to all the factions as well. If a player is part of say, Steiner, should be able to equip unit pattern+colour combinations without having to buy all the separate colours and patterns. Or, perhaps they should unlock those with loyalty points?

If you were talking about buying different colors for your unit, I would be fine with paying the fee. However when you buy the same exact color, it would be frustrating. Especially if the Leader has been saving their colors for this occasion. For example, I have Pigment(Green), but I have to buy it again for my unit with an MC charge, even though I already paid for it. Why rebuy a pre-existing color I already have, instead of using it for free and being done with it? It doesn't make sense.

I get what you're saying but this is assets owned by the 'Unit' versus assets owned by 'You' the two entities are separate within the system. That'd be the distinction there. So whether you stay forever with the unit or not, the objects owned by it continue to exist whether you purchased them or not. This way if the leadership changes hands over time then those items remain regardless of who paid for them.

I voted Yes, but here are a few caveats:

1 - If a player left a unit, he should lose access to the unit colors (in other words, they don't unlock for him, he simply borrows access from the unit leader).

2 - Alternatively, have the unit buy colors out of the unit's coffers. This would spread the investment around (at least potentially), while also making it more thematic (the unit now provides the colors rather than the CO) and safer for a unit that may lose its leader at some point (an AWOL CO could stagnate a unit's colors, or a CO who resigns could wind up taking all the good Premium colors with him when his successor takes over, forcing the new guy to spend a bunch of MC to make up the loss).

This is a brilliant idea. Sad to see that it has gotten ignored in the morass of flame threads.

Also depending on the colors you choose, it should show up on your tag along for ownership.
For example, here are some TMG unit colors I chose to be available for my unit:
[TMG]Cobalt
[TMG]Edo
[TMG]Turmeric
[TMG]Hellblau
[TMG]Hotrod Black
