Now that IGP is gone, can we get an Auction House to sell old mechs in? Because I have a few mechs I'd like to sell.

Don't even say no, because goldfarmers - that is just lazy. Every other game has figured out ways to deal with them.

Player Auction will be the way to ensure that CW will have depth.

How? Player unit controls factory planet, gets discount on lasers. Why does this matter if he already has as many laysers as he can equip? Because if some players can get them at discount, they can sell them to other players for a profit.

100k laser with a 20% discount costs 80k - that is 20k profit. This could be regulated by number of slots to sell stuff - which is increased for premium users (raises value of premium time).

That is just mech parts - if players can get discounts for consumables it will be even more profitable. And if CW consumables are added, like drop ships or planetary defenses... then an auction house becomes even more worth while for players.

Anyway, its late so this post is not very coherent, but it is my thoughts on the matter.

Donating components to the faction is interesting if others could pick them up at a discount, but not too much to make things worthless. Or, you can use them for free but pay rent to the faction for each drop!

Dropship. Not jumpship. Dropships are made on hundreds of worlds. Why do you think you can destory waves of them in mechwarrior 4?

The Union dropship was made on 6 planets before the clan invasion. Federated-Boeing Interstellar at its pre war height could make 25 different dropships - by the 4th succession wars it lost the technology to make most of them, but could still make 10 different types of dropship, and produce multiple dropships every year.

Not gonna happen, the ridiculous low prices you get when selling mechs is a CBill sink by design, I seriously doubt they're going to put effort into making something to make that go away.

That probably shows how little you know about "other" games. Real money trade (RMT) is the worst plague of online gaming today. Not even the biggest companies have been able to effectively cope with it. You really want to introduce that here? When game money transactions exist between players, RMT is sure to follow (and damage the game severely).

No thank you, we are good.

The only way I could see this working, would be if every auction sale required an MC fee that was paid directly to PGI. So if I want to sell an Atlas for 5 million C-bills, there's a 500 MC fee, for example.

PGI won't do this if it doesn't increase their profits. And it won't increase their profits unless it means more people will pay for MC. And this auction means that less people are willing to buy Premium time to grind C-bills, and less people are willing to buy stock mechs for MC.

So yeah... I don't think this will ever happen. If it did happen, you would end up paying a lot of MC regardless.

Yeah, even Blizzard can't stop it. When I quit WoW for good in 2010, I sold my account for real money instead of letting it go dormant.

Eve Online has a great system in place with PLEX. Doesn't get rid of all Real World Trading, but instead it sanctions it by allowing you to buy from the company.

Besides, just because theres a risk of RMT doesn't mean we have to deprive ourselves of a deeper game.

Except is would have no actual effect on the actual game play (ie. Mech on Mech combat). Besides that it would remove resources from other more requested features and content, and most likely cause more problems then benefits.

My vote is no.

Would rather see a mech rental system. This however would also have to incorporate MC payments in some way to be worthwhile to do.

And somehow there are still gold sellers in Diablo 3, so clearly the auction house was not the source of the problems.

Your point is moot.
