Could select a 3 or 4 mech(with a max total tonnage) before game and let you respawn in one of those, get the flag (or a very important artefact that look like a flag)or blow all the enemies mechs

Call me a traditionalist, but I despise CTF. No place in Mechwarrior whatsoever.

I don't see how they can go long without some type of CTF mode. It's pretty standard for any FPS and involves strategery. Unless you consider the fact that each 'battle' is a mini/macro-version of CTF because you conceivably control the 'planet' for your faction afterwards.

I would also think this would become mandatory when the Clans arrive, because batchalls were usually based on areas of the planet as a 'stand-in' for the planet. And I don't see how they could complete Luthien and the Battle of Tukayyid without a CTF mode.

If this game aims for standard FPS trappings, I will be a sad pony (don't mean to step on your turf ELPMC!).

Actually, when I think of CTF, I'm thinking of holding locations... not a game of rugby where you try to get a flag across a line to 'score'... that has no place in BTech. The only 'version' would be some type of escort mission for a high-value target (either convoy-type or maybe leader in a mech).

I can understand that, but I do think some people do like CTF... as long as there are enough modes and you don't HAVE to enter a CTF battle if you don't want to, I don't see a problem with it. To each his own.

I'm not a big fan of a deathmatch type mode (except for Solaris), but if there are other modes I do like and are always available, I have no problem with it being in the game. The more people who are happy, the better the game.

No you didnt ,lol ...talk about brutal . Put a Flag or as cinco called it "cloths on a stick " in the middle of the map , Try and get there first , and then try to ram it through the other teams "goal " . sorta like football with mechs

They did that on a game called S4 League, and it worked to a fantastic result, that game is awesome!

The big selling point of this mech game is that all classes have a valid use, CTF is even more conducive to those mechanics than typical attrition based game types. You really need a mixed and dynamic mech force working as a whole if you want to have a successful CTF team.

My point is that CTF is the kind of environment where a mechs special characteristics can really shine :)

Also I think this game type could be easily adapted to already existing maps, as they are already(guessing here) relatively symmetrical.

Isn't CTF a little bit... long in the tooth nowadays? It was fun in UT, but it's awfully formulaic and a bit too easy to subvert. Also - a fetch quest is a fetch quest :)

I like the idea of objectives (asymetric mission objs. would be nice) though - based on the tt rulebook mission objective suggestions?

Capture the Flag is one of those game types where you really get to see the advantages and disadvantages of each weight class, and would be good to see implemented should they decide to have a game type with respawns. Especially if it uses the same scoring as MW4/Battletech Firestorm does.

Been a while since I hit MW4, but in Firestorm (The current game running in the Virtual World pods) captures are worth 1000 points while kills are worth 250 points and suicides/team kills cost you 25 points (in Firestorm, a pilot is allowed to self-destruct and respawn if they get legged or have no weaponry left). Kinda makes for a complex and fun game type.

How about a Variant where there is one flag and your team must hold on to it. Kind of like how TDM is in Tribes Ascend.

Not Only Capture the Flag, but yes. Catching it for the Light, Fighting for it with the Med and Heavy Class and defend it with Assaults. Or switching and changing all kind of size for a differnet Play.

It's Tactical, not just who shoots best.

Taking and holding Terrain is another part i would prefer. Prute shooting each other is nice, but the more interesting is some sense besides the good shooting part.

Hmmmm....read a few post which boils down to:

1. Capture the flag is impossible because of no Respawn.

A: No different from the countless PAINTBALL matches I have played in. two teams, capture opponents flag, hit with a paint ball, you out, win either by returning their flag to your base, or eliminating opposite team (which then makes returning flag easy).

2. No One kills for a Flag on a Stick

A. As above, make it a memory dump, intell files, prisoner, defector, Armament cache, the list goes on and on, but the concept is the same. get to enemies base, grab the 'cargo' and get back to extraction point.
