I did a quick google search but nothing came up for what the contents of the light/med/heavy/assault are. I was looking at maybe getting one but i want to know what my 3500mc is buying.

Starter packs have always been lack luster business options for the players. Other than the free time in the package, they're essentially champion versions of the 'Mech that only really give XP bonus with everything else bundles are simply decorations. Given the way how the game is implemented, there is no real advantage in the bundle other than the free time you get that comes along with it. The value *might* go up with FW but if those champion 'Mechs do not influence your progression in that, then we'll still see the bundles retain their lack luster proposition.
I had posted sometime back around April of this year a Consumer Feedback about bundles about the lack of bundles as up to that point there were just the 4 starter bundles two years after the game development started. Oddly enough, my post did get answered in a form of more bundles shortly released there after so my voice did get heard but the value of those were far from what I wanted as a customer. The bundles aren't quite there yet and I hope PGI adapts now that they have full control over the product.
After all, I can still buy past bundles from other Free to Play games at a reduced bonus, but most of the content is still available to buy. There should be real 'Mech packs or even Faction 'Mech bundle.

Personally I think the Light and Medium ones are okay because the mechs that are in them are fully upgraded and good to go. I'm not as fond of the Heavy and Assault champion builds but that's just me.
The Champion Hunchback costs 1,800 MC and 30 days Premium time costs 2,500 MC so that alone would total 4,300 MC. The medium package costs 3,600 MC (700 MC cheaper than buying those two individually) and you get a free Mech bay and three cosmetic cockpit items. For the Light Mech it's about the same. The Champion Jenner is 1,450 MC + 2,500 MC for premium and you get 3,950 MC while the package for lights is only 3,250 MC.
Now considering the opportunity costs if you just bought the mech with C-bills. It'd cost you 1,500,000 c-bills for the double heatsinks, 4,900,000 MC for the 300XL engine in the Jenner plus some others which would pretty much wipe out your cadet bonus and then some.
If you went for a Hero mech, the Oxide only has a 235 Standard engine which only costs 1,441,300 c-bills and the Oxide costs 2,625 MC while the Jenner Champion costs 1,450 MC and is a much better machine out of the box. For me the Light Mech Starter Pack is probably the most convenient out of all of them with the medium one being a close second if you know how to not overheat and shutdown when using the 4P Hunchback.
Your alternative to these packs is to wait for a hero mech sale and grab one that you like.
