Not sure if there are many/any CoH vets playing MW:O, but much like this game CoH had a call-in artillery strike function. Typically you would call them in on a big blob of infantry and the opposing player would see this smoke and promptly retreat/move his units to avoid being shelled into oblivion.

However the British had a unique option regarding this: fake smoke. Everything worked the same as a regular artillery strike, except there was no 'bang'. The result is that Brit players would drop fake smoke on a cluster of infantry and (usually to play it safe) the enemy would retreat/move.

I think MW:O could benefit from this. Granted most slower 'Mechs just take the arty strike as their chances of getting out of the target zone is slim, but it could be a useful trick. The C-bill cost would have to be considerably cheaper than an actual attack. "Oh no, red smoke... do I risk that it's a feigned strike and keep fighting or do I try to move out of the barrage?". Just a way to introduce some more mind games.
