So here's the thing. The old lab was far from perfect, but it was still better than the new one. I have many issues with this "new and improved" UI...the three biggest are:

1. For some reason most of the screen is occupied by the listing of items. (this is just insane) That space could be used for more useful things.
2. It feels that you have to click a lot more than before to do the same thing.
3. Sometimes the lab displays all kinds of information, except the relevant.

I could start suggesting things, posting drawing about ideas, and menu layouts...but why would I do that? Someone else already has the perfect solution: Smurfy

The same thing that takes me 2 minutes in smurfy's lab, takes about 5-6 in the ingame lab.

The devs should just copy that lab, since it's near perfect.

What do you guys think? Please add your input.

As far as I know, they are already working on a Smurfy-like interactive Mech Lab. They added the static Smurfy-like view to the game back in April or something like that.

I found the old MW4 mechlab to be highly intuitive (run a google image search). To be sure it could be improved upon, and its possible to do so with modern gear and UI knowldege.

I do not really find Smurfy's to be much more intuitive than the in-game layout. Smurfy's still requires a lot of prerequisite knowledge for it to be accessible, ie only really intuitive for vets who already know what it all means. Noobs like me struggle with it--why are these slots moving around? what is this dynamic stuff? Better to have pictures, and slots that give a reason when they are disabled.

I am torn on this one. There are plenty of elements of both mechlabs that I like. If they mad integrated the ability to select the mech components by clicking the on the mech itself and gave us a list of items instead of large item icons, then I'd love to keep the new mechlab. I'd also love to see the Smurfy style mech lab because of how easy it is to drag items from one place to another.

well i am a new player trying out mech warrior and i find the UI for the mechlab VERY frustrating. this is also in part because the trainning videos show what must be the old UI. which looks far better in my opinion. also the smurfy mechlab is ALOT easier to use and shows more of what i want to know.

also i find especially the page with engines VERY lacking. it is difficult to see which engines you actually own when looking around it since the "owned" part is very small.

A smurfy like mechlab is already in the workings.

As I don't see a suggestion in the OP, just a mention, that he liked the old UI better, I'll close this thread.
