Okay everybody.

I want to try and move this concept forward, obviously this is a tough one with no shortage of ideas. There are a decent number of people out there that still are opposed to the concept or at least are somewhat fearful of the outcome.

I want to again assure everyone that were going to take this nice and slow and see if we can't create something that works for MWO. I won't go out and commit to a system that is already out there like say EVE, perhaps we end up there perhaps we don't. I am more interested in finding a nice balance between PGI and it's community. That is the starting point I think we all agree.

Ideally I think it should be a small manageable number, 12 is likley at the very far end of managable, but we also want to make sure everyone is represented.

The only idea I have currently is to take this thread, invite everyone that has been nominated to a teamspeak server. The first order of business will be discussing together how we can widdle that group down a manageable size, vote on that group of players for perhaps a certain "term"?

Once they are in place we can focus on our first Subject whether that remains ECM or perhaps a softball or two out the gate.

Thoughts?

Sounds awesome, some have already whittled a bit. There's about 50 people who are marked 'yes' or 'undecided' on the list.

That's a lot of folks for a teamspeak, plus there's going to be scheduling stuff. Probably two groups?

Probably a better choice than having a big election that will just end up causing hurt feelings on its own. Bluntly having them effectively picked by PGI also lends an air of legitimacy given the fact that the game isn't being changed by vote; this is all PGI fiat in the end anyway. Not a bad thing but also a fact that deserves being kept honest and up front. The purpose of this is to help provide more focused feedback for PGI that is as representative as possible.

I'm not looking for white knights to be nominated. Heck I nominated Roland. Who I disagree with, quite a bit. But I trust him to take the job serious, and not have an agenda. I removed myself because I felt I was not best qualified, and my notoriety would be a distraction from results. You don't see me pushing for CDLord either. By the same token I don't feel it is best for the community, yet, for you, Vass, Sand, Roadbeer, et al to represent, either.

But I do push for people like Homeless Bill and Roland and Strum Wealh because I want results.

Youll notice Im not pushing myself either

BUT Id like the unbanned to have a voice as well.

I could add another column for activity to the google doc. Will decide later. I am catching sleep.

During #saveMWO, we at the Word of Lowtax were able to provide both a managed Mumble voice server for live listening and representative discussion, as well as a companion Jabber server to allow live community text chat and Q&A.

As our infrastructure is quite capable and we are not bound by arbitrary user counts, we're able to comfortably hold however many players as would like to attend, for any prospective community chat.

We'd be able to make these services available once again.

No, I think we are looking at it different, unless I misread your statement. I mean, let them prove their change, here on the forums for a bit before nominating them for anything.

If any of them really are as concerned with the game as you say, they should decline nomination anyhow to remove any of the distraction it will cause.

I say nay.... keep the bustas out. I have heard enough from them over the years and NONE of it was beneficial.

At this point, only empower idiots like Bishop Steiner here who seem to argue from a logical and analytical mindset. The player council needs passion and intelligence... I vote Steiner for the intelligence... as for passion.... find a non-TT junkie who loves MechWarrior (preferably an old vet from the glory days of MW2, MW3, etc...)

Pro-Tip: At max, only HALF of the council should be made up of league players... This game SHOULD NOT (as seen in past mistakes) be only influenced by league backed players. Diversity is the key to growing this game and that requires the public queues, the new player experience, etc...

I think once people hear what's going to be involved a lot more will step out. It's probably going to be a lot of work that you're obligated to do if you accept. I suspect we'll get down to 12 people pretty effectively without a lot of other things having to happen.

FYI, and with all respect, your document is sbujective trash with a few columns of actual "potential" but is mostly subjective junk and really doesn't help to make a quality council of any sort. This isn't your high school prom here and a popularity contest, this is about making this game better.

You want to really find a player council that can get things done....You need to do some REAL vetting of your members.

All potential candidates (banned/unbanned) should be able to answer the following:
  • List 5 things you want to see changed in MWO and why.
  • Explain in depth one issue that you have a solution for and why you feel it is worth PGI time and money.
  • Explain you stance on the competition scene (current valuation, ROI, intangibles, etc.)
  • Explain your stance on the public/pug scene (current valuation, ROI, intangibles, etc.)
  • Explain how you would handle idea rejection (peers and from PGI)
  • Explain how you see the gaming growing in 1 year, 3 years, 5 years (end of license)
  • Explain the single most beneficial quality of this game
  • How can this game garner more market share in the flooded F2P market
I know a bunch of individuals who can and should answer this. Prove you can contribute and earn a spot.

Side Rules I would add:
  • Mods CANNOT be on the council (they are supposed to by an unbiased resource and need to stay that way)
  • A mixture of pugs and competiton players (half and half)
  • Councils should NEVER be 12 people, that is a 6-6 vote on things/tie, always make it an odd number (ie. 13) and get rid of indecisivenesss.

Seems like it's kind of pointless to bother having a meeting to decide on some smaller ballot.

Just put all the nominees who have said they will do it onto a ballot, stick it on the front page, and have folks vote for 10 players from it..

We don't really need to make this part ofof it more complex than it needs to be.

Yeah, why worry about trying to get a quality player council when we can rush it and hope in 10 years someone else decides to invest in MechWarrior again and then start over because we put a lot of clowns in the same room and their influence DID NOTHING to help the game... Definitely see the need to rush over finding quality....

What is the rush again?

Adding complexity isn't going to improve your results, that's the problem.

The point is just to get some folks who can and will do the work together to help sort and parse it for PGI into a format they can take advantage of. That's it. This is not the Papal Convention. This isn't the Brain Trust. They just need to get some good ideas peeled out of the community to give to PGI.

If that is the case, then forget the player council, as it is a waste.

Well, first, I'd like to see people in the community able to express opinions without being abrasive and sarcastic, e.g. using words like "trash", "junk", and "waste" to describe others' hard work.

I'd also like larger maps, dynamic objectives, a weapons salvage system for all play modes, and UI2.0 streamlined before anything else.

I have seen player councils since Star Wars Galaxies... let me know when they become ANYTHING of value. PGI, do NOT waste your time with this. You can get more input from ingame metrics, twitter and google search...

Which one of the new player councils wants to be a Community Manager at PGI??? It happens in EVERY council...

It is trash and junk. It's a pure subjective evaluation.... I need not explain, you can google the word for yourself and understand why that document has limited merit if any. Don't get mad because I am being honest. You should actually be happy that someone point it out to him so he can stop worrying about being the "court reporter" for this event and get some sleep.
