To be honest when we get a 12 man team and drop we dont really wait that long to find a game... Must be more of an ELO thing I think...

All I know, is we constantly have long waits with 6 or more. They need to scrap that 3/3/3/3 crap.

I think it's because the MM is trying desperately to avoid filling a match with heavies and assaults. In the end it gives up, and compromises with 2/2/5/3 or numbers to that effect.

And that is why it should just be scrapped. Long wait times are not what I bought Heroes, Phoenix Mechs, Clan Mechs, and premium time for. Tonnage is not a substitute for skill anyway. The group of guys that I usually play with has had great success with four man light lances. Limiting what we can plan and, by extension, how much we can play is wrong.
