I see that the opinion on Artemis varies greatly--where some say its a must others say it is a waste of C-Bills, tonnage, and crits especially for Clans and their stream fire LRMs.

I'll be honest that I've tried both with and without and can't really see a difference and am inclined to remove it. I use LRMs in a "direct fire" role; in other words I'm not boating them hanging out in the back firing at anyone someone gets a lock on from safety.

With the nerfs coming to the TBR-S the build I had on it wouldn't be viable anymore so I started playing around looking for a new build for this 'mech.

I came up with something that has over 1/2 the firepower of the laser vomit build (CLPL and CERML in each arm) but I augment them with an LRM15 launcher in each shoulder. The idea is to fight between 200-400m and of course fire the missiles on cooldown as long as I keep the enemy in LOS.

Has anyone used LRMs a lot in this role that can offer any feedback? Or maybe boated LRMs for a long time and is more familiar with how effective Artemis is (or isn't) with Clan LRMs?

I played this build in about 2 matches last night without it then switched away a bit of the ammo and upgraded to Artemis and played about 4 more but couldn't really see a difference besides running out of ammo faster.

I've played with a lot of clan LRM boats for the last several months, primarily a Stormcrow with 5x LRM5+A, a Timberwolf with 4x LRM15 plus backup lasers, and a Warhawk with 4x LRM15 plus backup lasers. (All builds using TAG and CAP).

Frankly, I haven't noticed that Artemis adds a whole lot of benefit to the streaming nature of clan LRM's. My two LRM15 builds (without Artemis) are devastating in the right conditions, with many 1000+ damage, multiple kill games. The only reason I use Artemis on my Stormcrow is because I can spare the extra weight due to a lack of hardpoints for backup weapons. However, it's my favorite LRM boat of the three. I enjoy living dangerously, without the crutch of backup weapons for defense. Positioning and speed are key, though. I would never attempt it on a slower mech.

So basically, if you can spare the tonnage, add Artemis. Otherwise, don't bother with it.

With all that being said, it would be easy to do a comparison of Artemis vs non-Artemis clan LRM in the testing grounds. I've just never gotten around to doing it.

Done that in the testing grounds but it looks pretty similar in distribution to me. I always attributed this to the fact that they were standing still.

I can't tell the difference with clan LRMs at all with artemis. Unlike IS LRMs, the stream seems pretty tight all the time.

I did about ten repeat test with and without, the artemis was slightly more centric on the torso hits, leaving a timberwolf without armdamage at around 160m where as non artemis would spread damage to the arms at that range...

outside of minimum range the difference was insignificant to the point of un-noticable.
