Went cheap: std 320 engine, 5ml, 2LL, 1mpl, rest is HS
NO UPGRADES....CHEAP!!!!
CHEAP!!!
I am dong a lot better than in my Victor K, thats for sure.
So, is there a point in which, when boating, SHS are better than DHS due to the size constraints?
IM not the most mathematically inclined person to figure this out...

DHS:

slightly better cooling, almost 10kph faster!
Edit:
Your math may suck but smurfy does it for you and SHS are almost always plain inferior

Bigger engines skew the math further in favour of doubles obviously, as do lighter mechs. It's possible that SHS could be more efficient than doubles if you really want to pilot a 35kph assault with a gazillion lasers or something.

No; there are a few outlier builds like SHS ERPPC Atlases, but their dps just doesn't justify the cooling. Double heat sinks are always better, and a must-have on any 'mech you want to keep - or simply be competitive in.

Funny thing happened, though this will change with a different engine.
I have a STD320 in there with 2 engine sinks, crammed as many dhs and ran out of room. Have 3 or 4 spare tons with nothing to use it for. Cooling efficiency went from 1.12 to 1.14
I tried endo with more shs, efficiency went to 1.16.
Granted a bigger engine will allow more internal sinks, looking for a nice balance point in regards to weight/space. Maybe a 350 engine?

SHS serve no purpose in this game, other than good times in something like the Marik stock mech drops.

You can also go quite fast with SHS... smurfy speedy SHS BNC-3M troll build.
Edit: Forgot Endo Steel to make it even better.

There is a single exception I've seen where you can skimp on the DHS, and that would be a Dual Gauss setup, or one that uses Gauss backed up by machine guns. But that's about it.
Any build that uses any weapon other than those 2 would be better with DHS.

DHS version BNC-3M (DHS and Med Lasers)
Not bad but with DHS I switch to 375 STD engine 12.7 KPH more speed (14 kph speed tweak) and touch better armor for drop from 56% to 50%. Along with Twist, Yaw and pitch speed increases. Though does look fun either way LOL
