So I'm looking at getting a an assualt mech pack, and I'm not sure if I want to go with the War Hawk or the Dire Wolf...
I'm normaly running an opertunisic hunter/killer Timber Wolf, for example:
TBR-PRIME
So I was hopeing that some of the community would be willing to provide some insight as to wich chassis between the War Hawk and Dire Wolf would be a better fit for me.

The Warhawk is very limited compared to the Dire Whale. Fewer hardpoints, most weapons outside of the torso, and always at least 20 heatsinks. Unless you want it for a specific build, the speed does not make up for the lost flexibility and sheer firepower potential compared to the DW.

I'm not so sure about the limitedness of the Warhawk. I have a ballistic brawler build, a laser boat and a balanced build (gauss + lrm 30 + 2Mlas) and a friend of mine has an lrm boat. True, it's not as versatile as the Direwolf, but you can still outfit it to almost any play style you like.
@Metus Regem:
If want want to stay with your play style you should definitely go for the Warhawk. It is very fast for it's firepower. If you want to try something else, go for the Dire Wolf.. Beware though; they really are very very slow. Maybe you should go a few rounds in the trial Altas to see how you like the speed (and imagine some more firepower
)
I have way more fun in my Warhawks than in my Direwolfs. The Warhawk plays like an Atlas going 70kph. Fun!

Oh I know how slow the Dire Wolf is, I spend a lot of time in PUG games being a sheep dog for them, running between the pack and them to make sure they make it to the fight....
As for the Atlas speed comment, I think I used the trial Atlas once or twice, and didn't care for it much.... maybe when I get my AS7-S, I'll give it a whirl again... but I don't like using IS mechs, and as my stats show, they don't like me much...

I like them both. But the Dire Whale is the most unique, if you can tolerate the speed.

I personally think both mechs are solid in their own way.
If you are going competitive, then the DWF is probably going to win the vote, since it can slap the most guns of the two.
If you are going for your own play style then the Warhawk actually stands a chance. I personally like it. Mind you, I don't own one. I have my experience with them from mostly fighting with and against them, and spending hours on smurfy designing builds for them.
It can be a good mech, and it has potential, but you should always remember you are limited in weapons, since it has very few slots to use.

Warhawk or Direwolf?
----------> KING CRAB!
HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!!!!!
(ok i stop to troll)...
I find that the speed and the agility of the Warhawk is pretty cool for his tonnage. The Direwhale is a... Whale. But it carries a fu***** amazing loadout.

Well based on what I noramly do with my Timber Wolf, I'm more than likely going to go with the War Hawk, speed and aglity are a nice thing to have when you want it....
That's just going to leave a Medium and a Light to go, so I have my 4 on deck for CW....
