I'm running this: BLR-1G
With three weapon groups, one for the ERLLs, one for the torso MLs and a third for the arms, TAG is on every group so that I can use it with weapons or alone.
I like this build because of the high mounted torso lasers allows you to use cover and still be able to deal damage and when inside 270m if you take care of how often to fire the ERLLs you can sustain a nice barrage from the MLs, MPL and MGs.
I don't like to rely on the Ballistics Hardpoints for some bigger ACs because it is so low and on the left side, having to expose too much of the mech or seeking out certain types of cover to expose less of the mech to fire off the Auto Cannons.
Also due to the tighter Torso Yaw and reduced Torso Turn speed, the boost from the XL380 helps.

The single missile hardpoint isn't very useful, I'd forgo it. I've also found that equipping a BLR with an engine large enough to power a city makes it a surprisingly effective (and fun) super-heavy skirmisher. With a 400XL and speed tweak, a BLR can actually run down most heavies, and even some slow mediums.

Heads are vulnerable on BLR's, I'd take some armor from the useless right arm and max the head. Doesn't feel like alot of firepower for an XL equipped BLR somehow, guess it's all the speed you've got. I've gotten tired of getting smoked early on in my BLR due to side torso loss and gone back to STD engine in my main BLR-1G. Think people are getting wise to BLR's and going for the side torso's often now and it's not too hard anymore.

Laser, I'd suggest moving the SRM ammo into a leg. Chances are you're going to lose that left torso and arm first. I've noticed people blowing off my side torso's in my BLR lately. Move some of the right arm armor to your CT first, left arm then legs. Maybe leave the right arm with like around 25-30 points? If you have a STD 325 engine kicking around put that in for a little more extra tonnage to put towards weapons or heat sinks as the 340 STD isn't benefiting your build much over a STD 325. You have lots of free crit space.

Not particularly. Yes, the cockpit hitbox is fairly obvious, but so long as you aren't stationary it is rarely an issue. I've been in hundreds of drops with BLRs and I can easily count on the fingers of one hand the number of times I've been cockpit'd. Still, I can't think of any good reason to NOT fully armor the head, especially when one can easily cut the legs down to 65 with no significant issues.

That way you don't have the high-mount SRM making you display yourself early coming over hills and you have the heat-sinking capacity to actually use the 5xML in combat if you find yourself in close range for more than an instant. Also, ammo explosions no longer instantly murder you.

Finding something that works well on my 1G has been a pain in the arse, but I think this works decently.

Not much range. Ammo shortages may occur, but it runs fairly cool so you can rely on those when you run dry.

Standard 300, AC10+PPC build.
Use the PPC+AC10 at medium range, their projectile speeds match pretty well. Once you close in you can use the 6x Medium lasers in place of the PPC at will.

Again, not much to do with these hardpoints really. The victor and the highlander both do this better and can jump over obstacles etc.
You don't have the tonnage or crit slots required to go with a huge XL or standard engine. You don't have the hardpoints to skimp on heatsinks either which makes endo steel problematic.
I'll see what the IS quirk pass does to the battlemasters before i pass judgement though.

PPC in the BLR's arm is a bad place for it, long range energy weapons belong in the torsos for better ability to fire over terrain. I'd go with this: http://mwo.smurfy-ne...a0398c7dc94951e
It's a smidge more damage and significantly faster.

That's a decent build. As for your comments on engine sizes and such.

I much prefer the 1S as a heavy lrm boat its fun to run.
