Topic: Scouting Tactics

Good morning cadets. Welcome back this fine day.

The subject we are covering today is SCOUTING TACTICS. So lets open your books to the chapter listed on the board. To begin, this class is about scouting, scout mechs will be covered at a later date.

The role of the scout, simply put, is to provide intelligence on the enemies strategy. Accurate information is crucial to this role. As the old terran saying goes, "Information is the life blood of victory." Or my favorite saying, "its not smart to hit the enemy in the knee with your groin."

Scout maneuvering is the art of being unseen. This is done by taking advantage of speed, terrain and electronic wargear if available. Remember, running flat out until you run into the enemy isn't necessary. Ideally, you want to find high ground that has cover with a commanding view of the area is preferred. However, Lady Fate my not always provide. Depending on the battle field, high ground may not be useful or available. Therefore hiding in valleys or other types of cover that gives you a view of potential routes. We will cover more of this in a later class on the various types of battle fields in the training grounds.

Its time to suit cadets for the next segment for this class. We will take live mechs to the training grounds, and learn how to use terrain.

Now for this first live trail run, Komadant Darwin Dog is currently standing on the hilltop forward of us. Note how well his commando is clearly visible. While he can see us quite well from his point, he is giving away his presence, and a good shot could take him down. Now he will back down the hill, and run back up at another point and crest again to spot us. 10 points to the cadet that spots him first and gets target lock. This maneuver is also not a good one to use as a scout tactic. quick reflexes and some luck might kill him. 10 points to cadet Aleira for spotting him at G3 and getting a lock so fast. if you had LRMs he could have been mauled even after getting back over the hill that fast. Ok class, spread around, Hauptman Darwin Dog will now crest in the proper manner. he will advance slowly up the hill at a new point. And will stop when he gets a view of us. Only part of his cockpit will be visible at most. You all have one minute to spot him, he's watching you now. What? no one can see him? well then, try using both thermal and night vision mode. Another 10 points to cadet Nelson, he's watching us from H6 this time. Keep in mind, a good scout would have gotten our numbers and location and ducked back down again. Normally as a scout he would not have stayed that long. by now the enemy commander would have the information and making plans to hit us. But it served as a good test to show you how scouts are spotted. now that you have an idea, your going to pair off, taking turns either as the scout mech, or the target mech. I am now uploading your areas now, spend the rest of the afternoon practicing these skills.
