So its getting fishy now with the arrival of the King Crab.

Its not an Omnimech, but will use Clantech.
Does that mean we will be able to swap engines, and upgrade its sturcture to Endosteel, or downgrade the FF to standard armor?
Does Clan rules like no lower arm actuators on Gauss apply on the KC?
Will I get a sufficient fish pond to feed it properly?

I don't get the question?

King Crab is an Inner Sphere mech.
No clan tech here.

Production year is 2743 so I think you are thinking about some other mech?

There are later models that are upgraded with tech like extra light engines, but that is way later in the timeline.

I would think he has it confused with the Stone Rhino instead of the Kodiak.

The King Crab doesn't use any Clan tech at all. The original uses Level 1 IS tech (before Gauss rifles, LB-10X, double heat sinks, etc.). It was later upgraded and used as a Clanbuster 'mech with Level 2 IS tech like Gauss rifles, large pulse lasers, streak SRM-2s and an XL engine (all IS versions, not Clan tech). It won't get Level 3 tech for another 12 years.

Returning from the original tangent, it's still a good question. A Clan battlemech would theoretically combine the strengths of Clan weapons with the customization flexibility of Inner Sphere mechs. What would be their handicap?

I think you just answered why PGI is reluctant to introduce non-omni clan mechs B)

Since Clans look down on Secondline troops. the secondline Mechs could be completely locked. replicating the limited resources given to those troops?

A Stock Kodiak was a beast on TT, as were many secondline Mechs.

There are a number of avenues that can be taken.

They can:

Reduce the max engines Clan Battlemechs can have.
Scale them a bit large making them easier to hit
Make them slower in turning and arm movement speeds
Reduce their torso twist radius
Not inflate their hard points as much or at all
Give them extra negative quirks to armor, structure and weapon cooldowns
Limit their use of consumables, mech and weapon modules
Limit their field of view in the cockpit
Or all of the above in really rare circumstances.

Thankfully, we won't have to worry about Clan Battlemechs for a while. At least until the Fed-Com Civil War era when there will be a lot more Clan Battlemechs available to choose from. Perhaps then we shall see what happens. ;)

As others have pointed out the King Crab is an IS mech and will therefore be subject to IS build rules and use IS equipment.

As for the question of Clan battlemechs (as opposed to omnimechs) I like think maybe just treat them like omni mechs would be the way to go. That or give them very limited customization and just chalk it up to the Clans being away from their refitting facilities and resources. I suppose if some perfect balance between IS and Clan tech is reached it would not matter but until then I count limiting pod space as part of the balance.

If they cannot put in something like the clans honor in "You know their way of fighting fair" how do you expect for them to just change the rules for a Clan Battlemech? That same logic could apply to an Inner Sphere Omni then we would be in big trouble being able to switch the weapons and engines but some things are locked.
