It wasnt ground with ground (i.e. 0v with 0v) was it? that normally gives a stupid reading. I did that once and was thinking W.T.F?! then i realised i was being a div lol

Maybe an excuse to get a new system :)

.... If you can afford it and the PSU is about 500W i would go with something like:

i5 3570k - ~£150

Asus P8Z77 V Pro - ~£150

8Gb ram (something like corsair vengance/ gskill ripjaw as long as its a decent brand you cant go wrong) - ~£30-40

AMD/ATI 7850 / 7870 - ~£200 / £250 respectively, the 7870 is slightly better (15-25%) than a 6950(no longer in production) but uses less juice, and heat i think. AMD are also great for price vs performance as Nvidia seem to give slightly better perofmance at times but you pay an arm and a leg for it.

I have 2x 6950s and i can heat my room slightly with the amount of heat it ejects out the back when playing BF3 or crysis lol but its a good card as it never runs hotter than 60. Ive been using ATI since the 1xxx series and no issues whatsoever.

In total about £600 ~ $900

Like i said .. if you have the money GO SPOIL YOURSELF!

Haha, I don't have money. Putting wife through nursing school. I've already pretty much decided what its going to be.

The AMD phenom ii x4 965 black edition

Asrock 880g micro atx (am3+ socket)

Hd radeon 7770 over clocked (I know this is a good enough card)

Already ordered AMD performance 8g (2x4) at 1333 ram

And since I JUST bought my antec 450w psu ill just keep it.

And my Hitachi 1tb hdd @7200 SATA running Windows 7 64 bit

Does this combo sound good?

The AMD 8150 is only 200 bucks now on NewEgg (or the 8120 for 160 if that's too expensive); don't believe all the FUD about AMD Bulldozer. I think it would be a better option than the PII 965, because I upgraded from that to the 8150.

Isn't the fud about the fx cpus is that they aren't a true whatever core? Like the 4100 is more like two 1.5 cores? I'll take a gander at it. I'm not guying the big stuff til the first. I have time to finalize

Bulldozer is terrible at single threads, it's a fact. I'd not go past the FX 6200 since if you go to the $200 range, you may as well grab the i5 2500k and get significantly better single thread performance and overclocking for $20 more.

But sticking with a lower end CPU for now, either the phenom II x4, fx 4100 offers greater justification for possibly going up to piledriver in the future. 6200 still does depending on how piledriver pans out, but it's a more difficult sell since it has good performance for the price already.

Well all these are am3+ sockets so I can still upgrade. But I'm biased towards AMD, don't ask why. Just am, no real reason to be.
