I would like the option to automatically mute VOIP for dead players.

Reasons why I would like to mute them:
  • Sometimes when players die they make rude comments and troll players, ruining the game-play. Really negative, I often just log off after that even if I'm not the target of their trolling.
  • They often start arguments (blaming/scapegoating) that prevent normal comms from being useful, after all, they now have all their time to dedicate to annoy people.
  • Many do the "back-seat" driver thing, and then if you tell them to leave you alone (or leave another player alone) and let you play, they start calling names or criticizing people, distracting me from the game and fun
  • It just would make the game more realistic, after all, they are DEAD or EJECTED and should not be able to make a difference anymore in the game. And for those that still want to hear them, this "auto-mute dead pilot" feature would be optional.

Reasons why I need this done automatically:
  • While playing, I can't be watching who's talking and then tab to go block them from the list. Too much time needed to do this.
  • While playing, I want to hear them when they are alive and an active teammate, not when they are dead and trolling, so I don't want to block them all the time
  • This should be an option so that players can make their own choice instead of being FORCED TO LISTEN to these dead trolls

Thank you for considering this feature.

Relevant MWO Forums threads/links:

Note: Though this feature may be applicable also to text chat, I personally have not found text chat trolling to be distracting. Text chat can be visually easily ignored and also is naturally discouraging for trolls to annoy people because it probably is too much effort for them to type. However, you may also want to consider allowing for the option to be able to auto-mute text chat as well.

Personal note: As always, thank you so much for making this such an amazing game. I've played MechWarrior/Battletech in all its PC variants since in 1988 and loved its evolution into this literal masterpiece of software and artistic beauty! Two of my three children (my 10 year-old boy and my 12 year-old girl) are currently MechWarriors as well and love to play. Keep up the great work!

Can't take the heat get out of the kitchen.... You could also like... mute them like normal.

You would have to read my post more carefully.

1. It is not that they are trolling that I particularly object to, though distracting I can ignore that, its that they are monopolizing comms and messing up gameplay.

2. Muting them like normal takes time and attention away from piloting, very hard to do in battle and ultimately self-defeating.

I would also like to add when I join my fellow dead mech-pilots, I'd love if this "auto-mute" feature automatically un-mutes them so that I can hear them again.

Ideally, the option would be so that live pilots can talk with live pilots, and dead pilots can talk with to the other dead pilots. If you want to chat and coordinate, then just stay alive! A popular saying is that "dead pilots do no damage", but i would like add to that "unless they mess-up comms."

Alternatively (and perhaps a quicker feature to add coding-wise) you can just add a "quick VOIP block" key-mapping that will "mute last speaker".

Hopefully, you will consider adding the "auto-block dead players" as I proposed in the thread, so we don't have to hear them even once at all, but I'm sure that would require more coding. A simple key-mapping and block may be the easiest for now and may be able to make it into your next patch!
