Yes, and no, I believe. You're able to continue Mastering a single mech with Elite unlocked for 3. But only if you have previously Mastered 3 of that kind of mech weight category before!! If you haven't you will need to unlock the Basics on all 3 to unlock Elite and finish Elite on all 3 to unlock Master. And then you'll probably want to finish Master for all 3 as well to become a Master in that Weight category and have things working like juxstapo said.

Umm. the OP wrote he has a "rich tradition in TT". That means the OP should know EXACTLY how OP Clan mechs are compared to IS mechs. However, we might point out to the OP, that the clans in MWO have been extremely nerfed to keep the IS mechs somewhat competitive... so your rant shouldnt carry too much weight for an old TT vet .

As for the IS mechs Id recomend for each Weight class;
Light
ECM Raven or Spider
No ECM: Jenner, Firestarter

Medium:
ECM: Cicada
No ECM: Shadowhawk, Blackjack

Heavy: Cataphract, Jägermech

Assault:
ECM: Atlas
No ECM: Banshee, Victor (Awsome might be worth a look at again after the latest buffs)
