Cause I totally missed it.

Took my DS on the training ground for a spin. Aimed at the tip of pointy nose of the Catapult from the side in Forest Colony. Shoots.

Only the torso mounted lasers hit the tip of the nose. The UAC5 and the AC5 on my DS missed the nose completely by going under it. What happened to convergence?

So I began to shooting at mechs from various distances. At 200-300 meters my ACs and lasers hit the exact spot. At 500 meters, ACs hit lower than what I was aiming, while the lasers always hit the bulls eye--I even had the lock on the mech. At 900 meters, the bullet drop is even lower than that of 500 meter tests.

So, unless I am missing something, I can only say either the convergence is borked or there is bullet drop. Or Training ground is busted.

Yep. bullet drop has been here since i can remember. Actually, I've recently "lobbed" an AC/20 shell over a ridge and hit a mech i couldn't see. Feels good to do that lol.

So the PP damage is not quite PP depending on the weapons eh? Does different calibre of AC have different value of bullet drop?

I'm 99% sure the amount of drop is dependent on projectile speed. Slower moving bullets will have greater drop. Thus an AC/20 is very noticeable, and virtually non existent with AC/2's. The actual bullets themselves don't have any weight, so the drop isn't simulated. It's a fixed formula based on travel speed I'm sure.

Bullet drop has been a thing for as long as I can recall. Back when AC20s could hit out to 810m, you often had to aim way over the target to get an impact for those really extreme-range shots. When AC2s could hit at over 2 kms, to land those extreme shots you really needed to elevate your aim point.

Yeah I can confirm ballistic drop has been there for quite long. Back when AC were triple range, you can see the drop very easily when shooting at far away things. AC20s have a pronounced drop after 2x, so it was obvious.

Now with just double range, you might not see that quite as often.

Interestingly enough ac 2s drop a lot more than the gauss rifle(if it drops at all, projectiles harder to see) even though theyre both the same speed.

I'm pretty sure gauss rifle is the exception. Only the Autocannons have bullet drop. I've never noticed it even having a slight curve, even in long distances. I may have to double check again though, but it's always been dead on.
They've tinkered with the travel speeds over the years, it didn't have any bullet drop when it was slower.

It used to drop slightly before the speed buff, but now it doesnt drop **at all**. I think at around 1700M I had to aim ever so slightly above a centurion to hit it though, but that was a while back.

I do this one a lot - big advantage of the slower shells. :D

Bullet drop has been in the game for a very long time now (like, years... seriously).

Interestingly, when people were parsing the game files, they noticed that 'Mechs are affected by a gravitational force of -32m/s^2, whereas bullets are only affected by a gravitational force of -9.8m/s^2. (There's a post on the Outreach subredit that goes into detail if you're interested).

So yes, there is bullet drop, and it's much easier to perceive on the slower-moving projectiles.

Gravity works!!!

be nice if there was a module that would use range to help adjust your fire angle with Ballistics.

But really not to bad with a little practice
