I think it's a lot of fun, but I started relatively recently so I don't know how it compares to what you were seeing.

MW:O has improved a LOT. 3pv is there, but it's useless. No one uses it. However, the clan mechs have been introduced, and they are fantastic. Tricky to face off against, but nothing super OP. I recommend checking some of the videos online.

The short version is this:
-Ghost heat is still here
-New maps are coming within the next month (I think one of them is coming this month)
-CW is also going to be here before the end of the year
-IS mechs are great at hit and run, and brawling
-Clan mechs are great at long range and Damage over Time
-High alphas and pinpoint damage are still king, so keep moving.
-We have Skirmish mode, which is team deathmatch basically. No objectives, just bloodshed
-Bases on Assault now have turrets protecting them, so it's not easy to cap them.
-PGI has taken over completely, and things are looking up.

This is a great time to come back, lots of new stuff, lots of free swag, lots of dev communication.

3pv really wasn't/isn't that bad because they nerfed it pretty hard.

Coming in with Wave II are : Mist Lynx, Ice Ferret, Hellbringer, Gargoyle, and later on, the Mad Dog.

Some are for C-bills, some only for real money. They're releasing two a month for C-bill purchase, and the next one will be the Dire Wolf this coming Tuesday.

I think you will enjoy how SRMs have been fixed. When you left they were pretty much trash. Now, they are BOSS.

EDIT: The SRM fix is known as "The Buckton Fix" Because it was all thanks to Buckton.

Things I use third person for:
  • To help me get up complicated slopes.
  • To find out what pillar, rock, pebble, truck, pipe, etc. I am stuck on.
  • To have a brief glance as to where firepower is coming from.
  • To lure players in (ZOMG A GIANT FLASHING RED BEACON OF "NOOB"! Everyone flock to it! Wait, he knows what he's doing! AHH!!!)
  • Cinematic reasons (sometimes it just looks cool).
  • Safely spotting for missiles (safe from direct fire). (Though somehow when doing this they can lob missiles at you just fine, so double edged sword).
  • To make the game much harder. (Your aim bobs, weaves, etc. for every movement you do when in third person. This essentially makes accuracy go way down. Honestly I think we'd have a lot fewer nerfs if we simply had the first person crosshair follow the movements of the mech like the first person one rather than 'glide' through the air unaffected by anything).

Technically saome of the first wave of clan mechs are still behind a paywall but ALL of them will be available for C-bills at some point. Here is the schedule http://mwomercs.com/...lease-schedule/
