Russ,

I am worried about the decal system. 32 bits systems are already at their limit, it is possible that adding even more textures will make the situation worse or even unsustainable.

Right now it can happen that the Crimson cannot be played even if it is the first map launched after booting the game, smaller maps allow for 2-4 consecutive games. The worst offenders are Crimson and Terra Therma.

Please keep an eye on this problem before proceeding, there are a good part of players heavily affected already.

How about you upgrade your system.

Please stop holding us back, 32bit OS' are outdated, you NEED to upgrade, it's not a want, it's not a desire, it's a NEED at this point.

There is literally, no excuse not to upgrade, you've clearly got the cash [judging by the fact you have founders and clan] to upgrade your system, so do so.

I really hate to say this but dood you need to upgrade, i know it is an expense that a lot can not afford. But a 32bit machine in this day is asking for problems unless it is just a workstation for word and the internet (even excel is taking advantage of x64 now days).

I will agree the game engine shouldnt be crashing on a 32bit machine, but even by the time this engine was put out i am pretty sure most people were already moving to x64 (gaming wise anyways).

My system being well within the minimum specs is a reason good enough, isn't it? but there are plenty others.

Also, trust me, aren't 32 bits systems "holding you back".

Oh it is dont get me wrong, but after seeing the performance of this game the minimum specs really need to be increased. As we are starting to see with all the low FPS threads, the thread you linked to, etc.

It seems all the tweaking being done to run on min is having an affect on max machines, as to the decals causing issues?! naw it wouldnt if they kept the spec small 64x64, 32x32 and 16x16. is what WoT uses and i have yet to hear of a performance hit to systems (as every unit and their dog runs with their own). There is a slight hitch or three at the start of the match but nothing major or serious.

Decal System:

The engineering of the decal system is essentially done at this point albeit completely untested. What this means is the engineer that coded it has the whole system working on his computer in programmer console command mode. So it means we still need to get a UI engineer to put the interface into the game itself. As you know UI resources can become very challenging to get a hold of. Currently those resources are working full time on CW screens.

So at this point I can't put a delivery date on the feature, and whether or not we will see it with CW phase 2 is still very much in doubt but at least it is something that is very much in sight.

As to UGC ( User Generated Content ) it is becoming more and more common in today's online games. It is a very safe assumption that we won't have something like this in place upon the introduction of the decal system. But long term I would like to think it will be something we have in our game, we will see.

question is if you want to make such a thing on your own, or maybe get it form another company. Probably you can buy it as as a black box tool from them as well. together with some both sided advertising stuff this could make a rather monetary cheap deal.

Have a look here at All Points Bulletin Realoded they have such a symbol creator as well and people make laods of cool and different stuff.

But such a system does indeed eat some client performance as well, so make it optional to show decals to not ruin the game for lower end rig uses.

I wish I had followed this thread a little closer after my early remark!

I never said user-generated logos were impossible, but different games handle how they stream content to users differently. Many MMOs constantly stream new textures and sounds and models to users as they navigate the game, but MWO doesn't. How does WoT deliver user-generated decals to players?

The legal and technical issues are no small task.

we don't have a huge persistent world where every randombob can come across you or cna change this at any given time. So you can exchange these information once before a match starts.

Why oh why each time PGI announce a feature it ends up in disappointment, FP phase 3 didn't live up to the hype, looks like the decal system wont either: Only department that seem to do their job is those pumping out the Mechs ( Thanks Alex for those great designs ) already had a picture to add as logo for the unit looks like it wont be in use.

Custom images is a legal and technical minefield- including factors like when/how do you load the textures to other players' computers(MWO doesn't have any streaming data and doesn't download any new textures when it loads a map!), if you upload a copywrite protected image to PGI's server they're suddenly liable, are you going to pay someone to manually look at all the images to evaluate for legal and politically-correct material, etc

Funny, other games do it with no issues. And have been doing it for decades.

64 bit Win OS was released in 2001. 15 years ago. You need to upgrade. 64 bit has been standard since 2009, that is 7 years ago. Trying to play any modern game on a system more than 7 years old is just not realistic.

32 bit is not even viable as commercial workstation.
