I run standards in pretty much every mech except like... 2... and I have a good number of mechs I take out into battle.

You have to work within the constraints. Standards are heavy, but that's what you have endo and ferro for, yes you loose crits in taking those, but you have to make it work.

The problem doesn't sit with the design of these mechs, it sits with the "Cram as much high damage stuff into a mech as possible." mentality of the playerbase.

If the playerbase built battlemechs with the role of the mech in mind, or with an attempt to even try to play the mech "As intended" we wouldn't have even half the issues we currently do.

But, that's also only partly the players fault, the Devs allowed omni mech levels of customization in IS mechs, restricted only by hardpoints. Because of this, Players have gravitated towards the fastest, instant kill styles they can get out of a mech, instead of attempting to boost heat effencency in a mech slightly by only making minor adjustments.

TL;DR, Customization is TOO open, and allows players to fundimentally break the system. But it's too late to go back now.
