So I can only answer in my opinion, and I'm going to say yes.
It's a 100 tonner that's bringing enough ballistics to actually wield dual AC 20's. At bare minimum it will be as deadly as the Gauss Jager in point blank range.
Arms are very likely to be underslung, but probably no worse than the Daishi.
Now, if you're asking if the King Crab is WORTH the money just to unlock it EARLY? That's entirely up to you. Not that it matters, but I already paid the money =P

I think they are releasing another inner sphere pack and it looks like it will cost $80 dollars.
Hopefully they do and hopefully that helps you

Add in double gauss builds and I think you're looking at a chassis that will be versatile and strong. Basically as long as IS ballistics allow them to keep pace with Clan energy weapons, it will be a viable mech.

As to viable? Almost certainly. It's basically an AC40 Jag without the vulnerable XL engine, and the ability to pack backup weaponry as well.
As Christof says, you'd lose the high mounted arms, but gain the ability to close the pincers (russ confirmed) for added protection in the arms, so if you're going AC40 rather than twin Gauss, you can help ensure they last long enough to get close. Add either gauss or AC20 cooldown modules (and +range modules if you're going AC20), and it'd be tough for it NOT to be a very, very significant threat.

Yeah. 40 pin point damage (50 if you add a PPC) is no joke especially on a 100 ton mech with 600 armor. Also there is a LRM slot in there as well.
Seriously, I don't know how it will work out because unfortunately there isn't any builders out there with this mech on it so we can view how things like heat are going to effect the mech, but it definitely has the potential to be scary and in a fashion even a Dire Wolf will be a bit afraid to head-to-head with.

It would be like the Daishi if the Daishi didnt have to use Bursting ACs...I can see KCs walking around a corner into like 3 mechs and killing them all before it's own armor reaches 90%....2 dual shots strips a Warhawk, another 2 kills its. 4 shots, 1 kill...a Daishi might take like 3 or 4 to strip, another 3 to core.....It will blow off armos in 2 salvoes, it will 1 shot light mechs. But will it be viable? naw....

Don't get me wrong, winning is fun, but Dakka is more fun.

Know what? That 50 point alpha is going to piss people off. I can hear the nerf cries already. Though, I guess it depends on whether it can handle the heat of a 2x AC20 + PPC salvo. Then add an SRM6+A to the mix.

Man the KGC might get me to pilot a dang assault mech.

I'll be shocked if one variant isn't given 2 or 3 ballistics per arm. A possible 6x AC2s would be a fun troll build, well until ghost heat steals the fun hahaha..

That's pure hyperbole, especially with ghost heat making it so you can't really fire 2 AC20s simultaneously more than once or twice.

Bear in mind also that the Sarna version has FF, and no Endo, which will likely be reversed by every sane player once released, freeing up about an extra 4 tonnes. I'm probably wrong with that calculation.
Finally, I believe it will be worth it because Alex has wanted to create this since time immaterial. I can't wait to see what his mind has been putting together all this time. The thought makes me shiver with antici....
