In BF2/3/4 there were server plugins to balance teams. Those are the servers to join for close games, rather than "clan" servers where they all stomp on one team. At least in those games you can actually respawn and try again.

BF2 mp was actually like the previous MW2/3/4 dedicated server lobbies. A server admin could host a server and use a bunch of robust multiplayer features to make the game as realistic or arcadey as people wanted. Plus MW3/4 had the stock mode option, which is a staple of MW games for Lore/Realism/Hardmode BT players.

The standard for Triple A MW games and even MW:LL is a robust MP experience with tons of different options and dedicated servers to select from, which you are sort of mentioning too.

Heavy Gear Assault, a new game being made by the mod makers of MW4 and AssaultTech, is featuring dedicated servers. So the "industry standard" only applies to minimally viable world of tank clones.

yes i know there where tools to balance the teams ,but as a player who maybe plays 1-2 times a week ,a system like that makes it just more confusing with all different kind of rules ,this scares newer players away ,as a AAA "hollywood" EA game you dont have to worry about that ,because millions already bought your broken game ,but this is F2P territory.
i do love dedicated servers ,no question about that.but this is MWO not mw2/3/4 or bf2 ,its like world of tanks etc. and loosing playerbase is a serious issue here.
all iam trying to say is ,you have to understand the difference between a payed game and a F2P title ,they work completly different.

I hate lobbies immensely. There's a huge barrier to picking a group and forcing yourself onto them that a random matchmaker avoids. I don't play multiplayer in games that use lobbies instead of random matchmaking.

I first saw it in World of Warcraft. It was the BEST THING EVER.

Neverwinter had it for a while but then they broke it (it would randomly put you in already-finished dungeons) and everyone switched over to forming groups through chat again. So I stopped playing Neverwinter.

Please don't infect this game with the non-random matchmaking disease.

Ive been saying for years we need to be allowed to run our own dedicated servers like counterstrike. (without the TTD of counterstrike lol)

Just a tip, instead of doing your manual quotes, you can hit the quote button bottom right of a person's post.

Thankyou I would love to use the quote feature on these forums but for some that use Win 8.1 and Explorer11 this feature does not work and I will not install a3rd party Browser on my system.Plus all the work around methods posted in MWO help do not work as well. but thankyou for your concern. :P :)

I thought explorer was just used to install another browser on a fresh PC.

A lobby system replacing the random system is a terrible idea. Lobbies allow people to exhibit the worst behavior. People kicking out players because they are in a Locust ("take an ECM light or get out"), people only picking lobbies where they think they have an advantage, people avoiding playing groups that they know are good (using the group tags to screen teams), and otherwise generally acting badly.

We already have a lobby system, and it's called private matches. If you want to be able to see those publicly and be able to join them, I could see that, but not as a replacement for the random matchmaker.

As for an in game VOIP, that is something the game has needed badly to allow people without team speak the ability to participate in team play.

Terry the Lobby systems for the old PC MechWarrior games were very different from what WOW or any new games had they were a place to let MechWarrior's gather and play 1v1-12v12 games and matches in a friendly competitive manner it was like being on bowling teams and playing in tournaments. There were a few bad mouth players in chat but admins banned them from up to 3 days to 6 months so there behavior was not tolerated by the community.

Rash I was not saying replace the solo-casual MM matchmaker I was saying upgrade the group private match system to a live-chat-lobby-system so the players can play 1v1-12v12 matches the way they like with friends and have the ability to create leagues for competitive play. right now the group mm queues are just like the solo mm queue everyone gets lumped into a big 12v12 free for all with out any choice on group size vs group size battles.

Many have tried to get Russ and PGI to consider it and to be honest I have never seen any feedback on this issue in 3 years by PGI staff of the devs and for the life of me I cannot understand why.

Yeah, lobbies are terrible. You know what's also terrible? Matches. Why do you have to load and wait till everyone is ready and then wait for the match to be over if you die early? And then when the match is over, you have to click again to find a new match. Terrible. Just make one big endless match with respawn and a 15 minute map cycle.

Sarcasm aside, they could still keep the matchmaker for the lazy people and have the lobby system for those who actually want to have a good match.

I've never encountered an online game before with such a complex matchmaking system. I'm sure you all understand what I mean. Most games just set up a lobby where like minded folks can post proposed games and wait for takers. If an organized 12 man is looking for a match they just pick a map and game type and wait to see if someone wants to take them on. If there aren't any suitable 12 man teams out that night then maybe they try 8 or 4 man.

The matchmaker could give the challenging group a "rank", of say, elite down to novice - based upon their average elo. That way any takers would be well advised of what they're getting into.

I think some nights people might be in the mood to take on some really good players for the challenge of it, and to learn. Other nights, playing with their beer buddies, they might want to limit themselves to teams at the level they think they can handle.

How could giving players the choice be a bad thing? It seems no one really likes the matchmaker. Perhaps the matchmaker is just a bad idea?

The ability to rig games to farm credits and xp is a fairly obvious (I would think) reason not to.

The PGI business model is based upon making players work to unlock new content, or pay to have that content unlocked for them or the grind reduced through premium time.

Allowing players to power grind this out in rigged games basically makes the game economy unsustainable in its current form. PGI would have to restructure their entire MC store.

There are no lobbies because they can be abused for farming. F2P games live and die on the grind and selling ways to alleviate the grind. Giving players a way to subvert that leads to players going through all the grindable content faster than new content can be created (and do it without paying). Which then leads to bored players who leave, which leads to a dead game.

An in-game global chat would be awesome, though the lack of users in CW's faction chat makes me a bit doubtful that people will actually use it. They'd have to make it so that you can still chat while you're waiting for a match, because I'm guessing that will be the time most people would use it. Oh and they have to filter it too. It makes a bad impression when the first thing you see in chat is "Motherf%$@ing matchmaker f%#@ed me over again!".
