part if not all of the problem lies in its lack of variants, especally with missiles.
in battletech cannon two variants come to mind. taken from sama.net
Alt E would have to be worked in to existing configurations probably with a clrm 10 or 15.
Alt D would work as is.
I recommend PGI add one or both of these to the game.
