LAMs are largely considered non-canon, but the normal Wasp and Stinger mechs are. However, because of a certain company (that's somehow still around) called Harmony Gold, you'll still never see them in the game. Same with mechs like the Valkyrie, Archer, Warhammer, Marauder, and Rifleman.

actually the LAM (Land Air Mech) were designs that could transform from Mech to Air Craft and were produced "based" on their non transforming ground based only counterparts. So yes the Stinger and Wasp "had" LAM variants but not every Stinger or Wasp was a LAM. Also, the Phoenix Hawk was given the same treatment and a LAM variant was made based on the original non transforming mech.

in other history there was also a very rare "Scorpion LAM" which was a 55 ton flying version of the normal 4 legged counterpart lol.

Other notable LAMs were WOB (Word Of Blake) designs... the "Yurei" "Pwwka" and "Wantea".

No LAM built ever weighed more than 55 tons... except a failed design that was modeled after the Champion mech which was 65 tons. It never made it past testing phases.

They can't use the original art for it, but a similar design and new art could be used, it's just a rough grey area where no one wants to get mixed up in that or the potential legal issues there.

Let us all shed a tear for the inability to get some of the classics.

It's that legal grey zone that Harmony Gold would use to sue on. It began, some time back, with the first trailer from the attempt to revive the Mechwarrior series, which would later spawn MWO. At the time they thought they had the copyright sorted out, and could safely use the Warhammer in that trailer. I'd have to do some research, but the short version is they didn't, or perhaps had permission from the original Macross copyright holder, but not Harmony Gold's copyright from the Robotech series.

At any rate, what I'd heard on the subject is that Harmony Gold threatened to file suit if any version of the mechs based on Macross/Robotech designs made it in, perhaps even if they used the entirely new resculpts that were made to get around their copyright, and reintroduce the mechs into the tabletop game.

They snuck by with the Project Phoenix mechs by only using the ones that weren't seen in Robotech.

Commando 2463
flea (will be added) 2475

Griffon 2492
Locust 2499

I´m not lore savvy whatsoever, but accodring to this list a "pre-2500 only" event would be crazy awesome! ^_^

The screenshot I posted from MWLL was actually a hybridization of the two designs that I helped work on when I was working on that mod team for a bit. The goal was to keep the original spirit, but not the exact look, the chest became pointier the sensor dish on the head got reduced in size from the redesign, changed up the legs a bit, the arms got bulkier because of the pod design for MWLL.

It was a nice bit of work. Cujo actually did the modelling for it, while I sort of did some design critiques along the way. So he did the hard work.

But you're right, the concepts currently used for tabletop could be used to introduce those mechs into the title.

Not everyone is aware of Sarna so you shouldn't call OP's question dumb.

Is it bad that the first thing I noticed here was the IK on the legs? PGI... plz... :D

It's a pity the closest we'll ever get is the Jager. Nothing quite beats the Rifleman IMO.

It's just a classic, hopefully we'll see it in the future in some capacity.

I wouldn't mind seeing a Kyudo 'mech in the selection made in 2443. http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Kyudo but yeah.. I guess the Mackie was the "first true battlemech" of the 25th century. http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Mackie

First 4 mechs in game were jenner, hunchback, catapult, and atlas. Oldest mech in the game lore wise,i believe is the commando.
