Okay I've recently returned after a little hiatus and found one of the most hotly debated topics is Clan vs IS balance and how to keep people playing IS mechs in the face of clan superiority. Now while they continue to balance out the technology and all the quirks and mechanical intricacies I figured a simple solution to keeping people playing IS tech would be to bribe them. Yes make IS mechs pay better. Something like a flat 10% increase in Cbills and maybe even an experience gain increase so their pilots kick clanner butt sooner. Just a thought...

It's a sign of poor game design. People should want to play both factions naturally, they shouldn't be bribed to.
I would say maybe temporarily until more balancing has happened, but really the Clans and IS are pretty close now.

>this obviously weaker side here will lose a lot, but we're PAYING YOU MORE so you'll not switch to the better faction. Sure, you might not win a whole lot, but look at all these second-rate robots you can buy with your extra earnings!

My suggestion was a temporary fix until they get the balancing figured out. Not a long term problem solved kinda deal.

Not to mention, people love stats and to brag about stats too. Who wants to get worse DMG/KDR/ASST stats playing IS mechs just to earn more C-bills for more inferior mechs (like Vassago points out).
Yea, the system in place needs to allow players to enjoy every faction naturally. When you start bribing players, it doesn't work.

I do think they have it pretty close as is. With IS quirks coming and Clan XL seeing HS destruction upon side torso destruction, we will be in pretty good shape.

I get what you're saying, and although there's some logic to it, it just doesn't make sense in the long run. At least, not by concept.
Inner Sphere Mercenary units tend to work for the almighty cbill plus salvage rights. Which makes sense when you consider they own their 'mechs and have to maintain/upgrade them out of pocket. That's one thing we simply don't have is salvage. You get X cbills for salvage...calculated in some weird way PGI came up with.
House units tend to get paid a wage based on their rank but tend not to own their 'mechs. They drive what they're issued.
Clans are a lot like house units in that regard. They're a military society and with the pinnacle of personal achievement becoming a Mechwarrior. Granted, they have some say in how their Omni is outfitted based on where they're going to be fighting (yet another brilliant PGI decision that pretty much negates one of the strongest points of an Omnimech).
Add to that the OBVIOUS cbill nerfs that have been added patch after patch (without being announced), it's rough all over.
