Roughly £120 for subscription and around £80 worth of purchases throughout the year, so £200.00 per year for me.

That is about $311.74

I know it is personal so I expect this discussion not to get very far but I am very curious to the polls outcome.

Also could I ask nice, for no opinions on what other people spend or should spend or whatever you might have in mind, to avoid flaming please. Keeping it strictly about the statistics and facts would be nice.

Thank you very much

EDIT

I added an option for those who have not yet played an MMO, don't want you feeling left out ;)

yeah i agree with that amount. as long as its even marginally better than WoT (dont flame the comparison) ill happily throw my budget for other games at it. which at a handfull of games per year puts me in the 2-500 cat.

i spend in the 300-500$ US mark
i think ANY hobby you enjoy and provide enjoyment is a VALID place for your money to go.
i spend $1000s on my car which i drag race. i spend a like amount on my firearms hobbys
i think you should spend whatever you can afford on what you enjoy. the idea that anything gaming related is less valid for money is foolish.
look at those who spend lots of money to play after work softball leagues ( in the usa) is that not money spent on gameing?
whjat about those who spend PILES of money in casinos?
DO what you like, Spend where you can and Farq the haters..

Yes, it is a hobby. No hobby is free is it. Well I suppose some very strange hobbies may be free but lets not go into those.

Even watching TV and being a couch potato seven days a week costs money, unless one is not paying their bills ;)

I play DDO its a $10 aprox a month or $77 a quarter the game is FTP but I am a vetran player and get some good perks by making it a monthly pay game. Would be more than willing to pay for a subcription fee if the game is worth it. If its only a combat game It will lose its luster quickly. If they make it a full universe with NPC a economy and such. The potential is limitless.

I usually spend at least $200 a year on a game I enjoy. Spending an evening at home enjoying a good game is cheaper in the long run than a night out. For example, we went out last Saturday night and dropped $100 on just dinner. We had a great time and will do it again but since we are both gamers it makes more sense to spend a little less each month on an activity that gives us more bang for the buck.

For me it has always been $180 (12 months * $15) per year + $60 for the game itself.

Around $180 USD, that is the normal $15/mo that non-ftp games charge. I've actualy canceled all my montly fee games though. I spent my money on GW2 already though, and doubt I'll be paying much for the microtransaction store there.

In a FTP game it takes some good bennifits to get me to pay for premium. The current boost to C-Bil and XP posed for MWO isn't enough to get me to continue paying for Premium.

Some of the types of things I'd like to see if I'm to pay for Premium:

Extra Content (Premium only non-pvp missions and maps)
Microtransaction store "allowence"
Early access to new Mechs for use on Premium maps only. (So non-premium members wouldn't be at a potential combat disadvantage.)
Some services that non-premium players have to pay for being free for premium. (Custom Paint Jobs and other asthetic tweeking beyond "normal".)

I spent more on WoW than any other game due to the monthly fees + expansion costs so that averages out at $240 when they have a new expansion out and $180 for a regular year.

Currently, no more than $15/mo, or $180/yr. I have lifetime subs for the F2Ps I play. That said, I have no budget for this game. I plan to buy what I can, when I can, if I'm even a little interested in it.

Lets change the Title to:

How much do you spend on Movies per year?

Or

How much do you spend on Books & Magazines?

or

How much do you spend on going out with your friends?

or

How much do spend on Sports per year (Hockey, Skiing, Tennis, Golf, etc.)?

Not be hammering on you OP or others here, but as others said, it amounts down to the same thing. How much does someone spend on their hobbies per year (and then I am in the $1-2k range)

I've not yet decided on subscription. Suppose we don't need to until free months run out.

i generally have a planed budget of about 20 per month for online games, here a bit there a bit, sometimes more, sometimes nothing...but i guess in average it´s something between 150 and 200 a year. it will probably be more, when readucation is finished and i get to work again...

I usually play EVE Online, and upgrade via their PLEX system which I pay for using the in-game currency. So EVE costs me nothing to play.

I don't play *any* MMOs, this is the only one I'm even considering.
I didn't vote "I never pay" because implies I do play but don't pay, which isn't the case.

In the case of MWO (and I can see why this topic was brought up), I'll be going as far as an Elite pack, and then possibly a prem-month every 2x or 3x month, so most of the time I'd be free-loading.
Tbh I'll work it out so I'm paying about as much per year on MWO as I would on maybe one or 2 retail games.

criminal charges accumulating based on the free hobby are hardly free!
