Currently, there is little-to-no reason why Clan players should be using their original Omni Pod configurations. The minor XP-gains offered by keeping your Mech Omni's intact hardly compares to the XP you gain from winning matches and fighting well.

I think that should be more ... dare I say it... NORMALIZED!

I believe there should be a better reason to use the normal Omni configuration. That reason could be encouraging players who use the normal config to get a bigger XP boost, or players who use abnormal configs should see a bigger XP-penalty. This requires no new features to be added or anything, just a modification of a system that, to now, does not accomplish its intent.

Raise your hand if you think that running a stock Omni Configuration nets you more XP than running a custom one...

If few hands go up, then we should fix that.

Honestly, they aren't. Stock builds are built for TT, with which this game bears little to no relation.

Not Stock builds, but rather stock Omnis. You can swap weapons all you want, just like an Inner Sphere Mech.

I'm saying that swapping your omnipods is like removing the identity of your Clan Mech, and so Clan Mechs with intact identities should generate *much more* Chassis-Specific Experience Points than mixed chassis... because XP is supposed to be a reflection of the Pilot's experience with a particular sort of hardware. If you mix the hardware around, then how can you claim he has "ClanMech-Prime"-specific XP?!

There should be a bonus for running stock configs that is tailored to each config. Say a Fenris A, with only 3 hard points, would get a big buff, versus a Timberwolf Prime, with its many hard points would get a small or no buff.

Personally, XP bonuses/penalties probably wouldn't be an incentive/disincentive from fiddling with my mechs unless they were fairly severe - like more than 30%.

The biggest issue with the current bonus for running a "pure" Omnimech is that the bonuses per body part don't stack. Currently each body part appears to contribute +2.5% XP when you have a full set, but the problem is that when you do have a full set you only receive 2.5% more XP total rather than a stacking effect. This could probably stand to be fixed.

Yes, but these 'identities' are again, based on builds made for TT or lore, which has little bearing on how MWO actually operates and plays.

I'm a fan of the current solution which gives bonuses to omni pods that are 'inferior' by measure of having less hardpoints etc. If anything maybe the bonuses could be increased slightly.

XP isn't 'real'. If they wanted people to use the omni pods that match the CT it would have to be something that benefits you in the game itself, like the 10% faster recycle time on the Summoner Prime.

Maybe if it was 10% when used with the B or D CT, but it's 12% if used with 8/8 Prime omnipods.

I don't think this will help the Summoner at all.

Why?

To encourage people to drop in more than just 3X the same build for leveling 3 OmniMechs.

This is pointless. Both "directions" are foolhardy. Increase buff to 8/8 omnis? Are you kidding? buff clans? the forums would explode, just me uttering those words in this post might trigger an unstoppable tidal wave of forum nerfherding.

on the other hand, the clans have already been overnerf'd and I can't see any justification for adding penalties for customizing the mechs. Wanna do that? add penalties for IS mechs that put big ballistics or PPC's or ERLL on mechs without them stock, like twin ERLL ravens.

Nonsense.

They're OmniMechs. Let them be OmniMechs. There is no need to try to enforce stock configuration arrangements.

I think a "compromise" might be to just give bonuses for the "sub-par" Clan models while not giving any handouts to the current top Clan chassis (i.e. everybody's favorite 75 ton heavy).

I agree there should be some bonus. However, once I basic a clan I am selling the other 2 regardless and keep the pods to run anything available.

edit: bonus or not.

Make the bonus not get locked so easily (like, having all 8), and so pathetically paltry (2.5% is effectively 4 times worse than then 10% bonus the Champion mechs get).

Even if you swapped out one omnipod (let's say, ECM Kitfox-C arm), keeping the rest should get you a bonus, and the more you swap out components, the less the bonus. If you're already swapping out 4 components, then the bonus should be non-existent. Right now, I could care less about the bonus.

My suggested "bonus structure":
All Omnipods unchanged = +10% XP bonus (or even better, 10% C-bill bonus stacked ontop of the 30% C-bill bonus if you are using the Prime (I)nvasion variant instead of an XP bonus)
1 Omnipod change = +7.5% XP bonus
2 Omnipod changes = +3% XP bonus
Anything more = no bonus

This can be tweaked or changed, but the idea of trying to keep stuff unique won't hold due to the "bonus" structure aspect... which is completely worthless for all intents of purposes of this current discussion.

A C-bill bonus would be a bigger incentive for this system, but moreso the rigidity of the current system must be removed or relaxed before anyone will care.
