Mad dog seems to have Large side torso hit boxes. If the enemy see you you lose half your mech.

Well, mad dog is a 60t mech, stormcrow is a 55t mech. Treat your Doggy more like a big medium than a heavy. It's fragile compared to the mad kitten. And hell, better my side Torso than my Center Torso.

Well that sounds well balanced to me considering what you stick in the side torso...

Even with a fixed XL engine?
(and with next nerfing xl patch coming?)

Catapult-A1 has even bigger missile racks.

Quit whining. This thing straight up replaces all Catapults except for the K2, and makes any slow Dragon ideas irrelevant. You have not seen huge until you try the Quickdraw.

Sure 2x Sidetorsi is more HP than 1x CT. So yes I prefer losing both sidetorsi to die instead of directly the CT.

The side torsos are fine. I have had no trouble keeping them as long as I spread damage and dont keep one side facing the enemy for too long

It's perfect in my opinion. It feels like a TW, but it's not

Poor as in "having $360 disposable income"?

more like, you spend 360$ and now don't have enough money in the wallet to pay for a 75t slot in a dropship and so you had to buy a 60t space instead.

Poor as in. If your strapped for tonnage and need a Clan heavy that is almost a Mad Cat if you squint with drunk vision.

mad dog is super squishy.

i was worried that it would be OP with 6 missile hardpoints, but my worries have been cured by actually piloting the mech.

Its the size of a TW, with worse hitboxes, and less armor, traveling at the same speed.

The side torsos feel as large as the CPLT arms, but they do not have missile bay doors to reduce the damage by 10%

Some CPLTs have torso weapons (all but one, in fact) so if you lose both arms on a CPLT you are still in the fight. Mad dogs lasers fall off when the side torsos go.

Even with a clan XL, the mad dog is squishier than the CPLT is with an IS XL. However, it can carry more firepower.

In the PUG queue, there is generally no consensus on whether or not you should blow the arms off a CPLT or try to kill it through the torso.
Mad dog is obvious, though - shoot for the torsos.

The mad dog feels like a death trap, even compared to the CPLT in the PUG queue, but I do not think this will be the case in organized drops. CPLT will fare worse when there is agreement on where to shoot it, which is a disadvantage to the CPLT in organized drops.

In any case, it plays best as a support mech, just like the catapult.
...Interestingly enough, this was its most common role in traditional battletech lore.

IMO for SRMS:
stormcrow > mad dog
summoner and mad dog are actually fairly close at boating SRMS because the summoner is tougher in a brawl.

For LRMS, the Mad Dog does better than the summoner, and stormcrow.

I am actually quite happy with the way that it was implemented.

Nicely done, PGI.

Only thing that makes me sad is the lack of another ballistic arm so that the C variant can be built.

With dual gauss, you would only get 2 tons of ammo if you use max armor, forcing people to remove armor from the mech.
(The canon variant has 4 tons of ammo - oddly enough, this maybe be one of the few canon builds that is actually close to an optimal build for this game, armor distribution aside. Sad we didnt see it...)
I think this would be a great addition to the game, and would reinforce its role as a support mech designed for long range.
