One idea to make merc units in CW feel somewhat unique is to make it so they normally get a c-bill bonus and a loyalty point penalty since most merc units are in it for the money and not the loyalty but as they keep fighting for the same faction without switching sides the loyalty penalty gets smaller as does the c-bill bonus since the faction would respect their loyalty but at the same time having them onboard would become standard and the "fees" aka c-bill bonus would get smaller.
For loyalty you could either make it per fight basis or per season basis. So for example if a merc units keeps fighting for Davion they would go from 20% c-bill bonus and 20% LP penalty down 1% for each fight for that faction, so second fight is 19% cbill bonus and 19% LP penalty and so on (might have to change it so for example c-bill is 10% and goes down 0.5% per event-depending on c-bill vs LP worth). And the bonus/penalty would reset as soon as they take a contract for a different faction.

This way if a merc unit decides they want c-bills they'll hop from faction to faction selling their services, but if they decide they want loyalty points they will stick with 1 faction.

What Mercs need are contracts which have perks similar to what you are suggesting, giving a Merc a reason to fight with a faction.
